Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump administration may declare a national housing emergency this fall as the White House looks to highlight key issues for midterm campaign voters.
“We’re trying to figure out what we can do, and we don’t want to step into the business of states, counties, and municipal governments,” Bessent told the Washington Examiner. “We may declare a national housing emergency in the fall.”
Bessent said housing affordability would be a critical leg of Republicans’ 2026 midterm election platform. Bessent declined to list any specific actions the president may take, but he suggested that administration officials are directly studying ways to standardize local building and zoning codes and decrease closing costs.

No.
No more “emergencies” of expedience.
Great! This will tie in nicely with deterrence and deportation of illegals.
but he suggested that administration officials are directly studying ways to standardize local building and zoning codes and decrease closing costs.
the simple thing to do would be to make it illegal for the large investment houses to buy single family homes.
they would be forced to sell.
that would make houses a lot more affordable.
FHA and other federal agencies require compliance with local building and zoning codes, which are a major source of driving up prices and/or making housing a problem. (But not the only problem.)
Some building and zoning codes are common sense saftety.
Other codes are intentionally designed to limit the market.
It’s all well and good when it is your guy doing it but what about when it is their guy in office ???
Or when it is a disciple of their power welding maniac like Soros.
Bessent is a product of George Soros.
Make illegal for foreign entities like Black Rock to buy American single family homes.
Deport illegals including those who overstayed their visss of course.
End chain migration .
now that is a good approach. Imagine what democrats would do to address the problem
—
Find a judge to halt the whole Trump action?
“I’m ok with this as long as we don’t infringe upon local zoning ordinances...”

That’s for the developers to decide. /sarc
It's 2029, Newsom is potus, or perhaps AOC.
A climate emergency is declared under IEEPA, imposing prohibitive tariffs on all fossil fuels, and gas powered cars.
Also, an IEEPA gun violence emergency tariff hits all guns, gun parts and ammo.
Everyday is an emergency to these people.
quiet you
If the US would stop sending money abroad, funding wars abroad, etc, etc, you get where I’m going. Stop spending money on everyone else and take care of our own!
Much of the problem is that apartments are not as profitable as are condos. To the point that many apartments are being converted into condos. But the market for condos is much smaller then the one for apartments.
And single family homes are another big step up.
Do you really want a Federal Housing emergency? Everyday, socialist on the left and right gain more power and states get run over by federal actions. Now fedzilla wants to crush local zoning laws.
KICK OUT THE ILLEGALS
KICK OUT THE CHEATERS IN SECTION 8
CLEAN UP THE FRAUD EVERYWHERE===
HOUSING BECOMES AVAILABLE,
Thank you congress for bankrupting us so we can’t waste too much more workers money on this crap.
Bring it down. Burn it. Start over because we wont correct it: which would be so much easier and smarter, and God intended.
I like that law.
That said, places like Malibu and Upper East Side were always going to be expensive.
Deport 50 million invaders and that ought to free up some houses for real Americans.
Also stop Blackrock from buying up housing.
