If only. If it were painful, less people would be doing less stupid things.
I have a friend that has to drive a lot in and around Houston and he calls me when driving (he has a headset for the phone). Pretty much every day he has to dodge people on their phones that can’t manage to drive straight and stay in their lanes... because they’re on their phone, trying to read texts while driving. Stupidity reeks, but doesn’t actually burn... apparently.

But the insurance companies will argue that if the roll-off were place legally the accident would not have happened.
I see them in the road all the time at constricted residential construction sites. Maybe it needed orange safety cones around it.

I got rid of state farm out of my life completely. Paid off mortgage and dropped house insurance. With the money saved each year on premiums I can get minor repairs done and have money left over.
Car insurance was not easy to cancel. Florida requires everyone to carry liability insurance. I discovered one can self insure by posting proof of assets over $40,000. Assets can be house equity or money in bank. I submitted application on July 14, Florida sent me email with self insurance certificate on August 11th. Cancelled state farm on 12th.

To tell the truth, I would be far, far, very far ahead if I had done such over these 40 years plus as an adult. But I didn’t dare then.
And I don’t dare now, either. lol.

You are so right. I paid home &auto insurance for 60 years each. Never collected a dime from insurance company. I am pissed off because state farm doubled my car insurance premium in 18 months span. I have perfect driving record with no accidents in 63 years and no claims on house insurance. The deductible is always higher than any repair cost.
