Republicans are leading the charge against alcohol consumption in the US.
Across the US, drinking rates have plunged to their lowest level in 90 years.
Only 54 percent of adults said they had a drink last month, according to Gallup data.
That's the lowest level since the polling group began collecting the figures in 1939.
Only 46 percent of Republican voters reported having any alcohol in all of last year, a one third drop from 2023.
By comparison Democrat drinkers only decline by five percent in the same period.
'Americans' drinking habits are shifting amid the medical world's reappraisal of alcohol's health effects,' Gallup said of the findings.
'After decades of relative steadiness in the proportion of US adults who drink, [we have] documented three consecutive years of decline in the US drinking rate as research supporting the 'no amount of alcohol is safe' message mounts.'

“I’m Baptist. I nibble a bit.”
Baptist, too. Drank wine the first time when I was 22. During disco days I decided to try screwdrivers. (That ended as I puked all the way from Soldotna to Anchorage.). Then a little wine, but maybe only have it a few times a year.
It is utterly stupid.
Granted, those are beers, and they are likely jacking up the price to keep people from drinking and getting disorderly (which does happen at Fenway) but still...
Have you seen the price of a mixed drink at a concert or a sport event ?
$15.00 is typical.
Great! Cheaper booze for me.
They’re all potheads and pill poppers now

What’s the difference between a Baptist and a Catholic? The Catholic will say hello to you in the liquor store….
”Is that supposta be funny?”
Yes, this is driving a lot of the decline. Just like rising cigarette prices cause many to quit.
People knew smoking was bad for them but hey kept doing it as long as they were affordable enough.
"Your terms are acceptable!"
Bingo
Was about to say, the younger generations like pot better. Dems have always been druggies and drunks, so that’s nothing new.
Foxy ladies! 🙄
I always used to say about having one or two drinks... “F that, I’m in it to win it.”
I don’t even buy $3 iced tea with a meal let alone alcohol. I don’t care how many refills there are. Water works fine, with lemon if you want to go wild.
And some of it may distill down to , it is just too expensive.
A pint at the pub is $8. A cocktail is getting close to $20. Last six pack I bought was $14. I like drinking but I like my money more. The only thing that really hasn’t gone up is the rot gut liquor.
I had a workshop in Washington state. I was thinking of bringing something for after hours but figured I would just buy there at the nearby Costco. Something like 50% tax on everything. We didn’t drink that weekend.
Hahahahahaha that was great! I have never seen that, but it captured that time perfectly!
Water is too plain for me, and alcohol is too expensive!
