Perry recalled traveling to Tijuana, Mexico in September 2023 and spending 12 hours hallucinating that he was flying through space, seeing hieroglyphics and escaping the devil. 'I woke up very clearheaded, with this very warm feeling in my body,' Perry told the paper. 'I was as calm and as happy as I'd been in memory.'

During his time serving as Texas governor, Perry knew that many veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were in trouble, but he first heard about ibogaine through a Navy SEAL he had hired in 2017 during his time running the Energy Department.

Ketamine is being tested. I was given it as general anesthetic for a collapsed lung. Supposedly it doesn’t depress autonomic functions like other medications do. By far the weirdest medication I’ve ever been given. I remember weird sounds and colors and feeling like I was deep underwater and had to swim to the surface before I could exist again. I woke up and for 10 minutes all I could say was “WTF was that?”
It’s some powerful stuff. And people take it recreationally!

There’s clinics in both Mexico and Canada that use ibogaine to treat heroin and other addicts. Supposedly it’s pretty effective for that. But unlike some other hallucinogens there have been some deaths associated with ibogaine so it should only be used under medical supervision. A friend of mine whose son was a heroin addict was looking into this.

Norm Macdonald (RIP):

“But I don’t drink, so I’m no good at parties for that reason. And drugs, I don’t do them. Used to. When I was a boy, young, I would do anything, you know? LSD, that was about the strongest drug I ever did – acid. I don’t know if you’ve ever done acid, but… When I was young, they would tell me, “You have got to be careful with that acid, on account of you can do it,” and then you have a flashback. Like, ten years could pass, 20 years could pass, “and then you get a flashback.”

So I thought, “Well, that sounds like a good deal,” you know? I went to my drug dealer Frank. I said, “Frank…” is there a drug on the market where I pay you $5… I take the drug, I get high, “and then, 20 years later, I get high again?” He said yes. And I think of myself as somebody who’s good at stretching his drug dollar.

But the point of the whole thing is for me to tell you young folk… that it’s not… it’s not true at all, you know? Because I have not done LSD since I was a teenager. Ten years have passed, 20 years have passed. Sadly, 30 years have passed. And still… no flash… What a gyp that turned out to be. I… Just more horseshit by the big acid companies if you ask me. I don’t want to… I don’t want to get too political, but… If you think Big Acid™… cares about you, the little guy… They care about their third-quarter profits. That’s what they care about.”

I’ve seen animals coming out of ketamine. It’s a little funny, as if they ARE thinking ‘WTF’?

There’s a lot of research being done into microdosing of LSD for cognitive issues, anxiety, depression, etc.

Right? At 75? And with a track record of not really being that impressive in these formats previously (noting, again, though, that he could always kick ass with a teleprompter...very very good at hitting his applause lines...well above the average politician in delivering a written and rehearsed speech)

“ “We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...””

Sounds like something Hunter S. Thompson would say.

Didn’t know they used it on humans though it is they anesthetic of choice for veterinarians.

Were you at the animal hospital when this happened?

In a free society you can choose other ways to treat damage to your mind or body. That is what is wonderful about our country.

I'm for real research without bias either financially or politically. If RFK Jr can get real research done on even off-the-wall drugs I'd approve of it. As long as the researchers' data collection techniques and the data itself is publicly available (de-identified, of course, for privacy).

If anyone is willing to make sure research is about the science first, RFK Jr is.

Um, no...
At the local hospital. It is used on humans. Like I said it doesn’t impact autonomic functions like breathing as much as other anesthetics.

it’s like minoxidil the hair growth drug—It was originally a blood pressure medication, but they noticed that the patients were growing hair so they just made a lotion out of it and toned down the blood pressure effects. With this particular drug, if they could filter out the.part about me fighting with the devil, I think that would be fine.

I've entertained lucy in the sky with diamonds enough times to shake a stick
at, multiple trips with various psylocibin species with nary a bad experience.
It was all good.

My theory is the type of trip depends on having the right intellect, a strong
sense of self, and the brain power to go with it.

I had a friend who actually went to a doctor to have an administered back in the 60s, a dose of LSD. He said he walked out the door after the treatment, and he didn’t think anything was out of the ordinary, and he was starting to think that he was immune to it or something, but he looked up and noticed that the trees were upside down, and the roots were sticking out towards the sky, and the leaves and everything we’re on the bottom, so I thought that was funny.

I think like a man half my age

Well, so do I about a lot of things. However, my body is its actual age.
