My guess is that Putin is just stalling, jerking Trump around.
Putin will be appropiately dressed and will conduct himself as national leader and therefore give Trump more respect than the little Ukrainian dictator did.
It’s a big photo op. Trump wants to get a Noble Peace Prize for ending the war. Putin wants to delay to try to grind Ukraine into submission because Russia can sacrifice the lives of more of its citizens than Ukraine can. That’s the game.
Deleting the parentheses....
What will happen at the Alaska summit? Vanity
Alaska will not be sold back to Russia
The cease fire will not be agreed to
I wonder where it’ll be held.
In the early ‘70s, I was at the hangar at Elmendorf AFB and saw Nixon and Emperor Hirohito.
No preconditions going in.
Who knows what will come of it.
Trump could be reeling Putin into a negotiation that, despite Putin’s best efforts as a thuggish dictator and an inveterate liar on the world stage, and however long it might take within the context of Trump’s second term, might eventually either tame “The Bear”, or begin moving it in that direction. As in, objectively speaking (not just a Putin headfake).
Chocolate flourless torte with whipped cream and a cherry on top for dessert, with a glass of whole milk, of course.
U.S.-China Meeting (March 2021): Anchorage hosted a high-level diplomatic meeting between senior U.S. and Chinese officials, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This summit was notable for its tense exchanges, with both sides publicly airing grievances, marking a significant moment in U.S.-China relations.
Nixon-Emperor Hirohito Meeting (1971): President Richard Nixon met with Emperor Hirohito of Japan in Anchorage, Alaska, during a stopover. This was the first time a Japanese emperor had visited the United States, and the meeting focused on strengthening U.S.-Japan ties.
Reagan-Pope John Paul II Meeting (1984): President Ronald Reagan met with Pope John Paul II in Fairbanks, Alaska, during a papal stopover. The meeting was largely ceremonial but underscored Alaska’s role as a convenient location for international leaders en route between continents.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Putin is just jerking Trump off.
I’d sure like some of those Russian King Crab legs that I used to buy at Wegmans.
Grandstanding by either side won’t cut it. Nothing will emerge from this unless it’s purpose is merely to publicly ratify what has already been worked out by detailed negotiations between both sides’ trusted negotiators.
