The Shroud of Turin was not laid on Jesus' body, scientists reveal

For centuries, devout Christians have flocked to the Italian city of Turin to pay their respects to one of the most famous relics in the world.

The Shroud of Turin is a piece of linen, measuring 14ft 5in by 3ft 7in, that bears a faint image of the front and back of a man.

Many believe that this image was created when Jesus was wrapped in the venerated shroud shortly after his death on the cross 2,000 years ago.

However, according to a new study, the Shroud of Turin was never laid on Jesus' body.

Brazilian 3D designer and researcher Cicero Moraes, an expert in reconstructing historical faces, says that the shroud is nothing more than a 'masterpiece of Christian art'.

Mr Moraes used digital modelling software to examine how cloth drapes over the human body compared to a low, flat sculpture of a body.

These results, published this week in the journal Archaeometry, show that the shroud's distinctive pattern could only have been produced by a sculpture.

In his paper, Mr Moraes wrote: 'The Shroud's image is more consistent with an artistic low-relief representation than with the direct imprint of a real human body.'

New analysis shows that the images on the Shroud of Turin (centre) could only have been produced by laying the cloth over a flat sculpture (right) rather than over a human body (left)

Interesting thought. Wonder if his incarnate body passing through walls did leave Impressions on the walls too? That would be cool to find a wall wi5h a perfect Impression on it (if one were still standing or,course)

Not going to read the article.

But I have to wonder how the 3D guy explains the several pints of human blood from a tortured man came to be on the Shroud.

The blood from the wound in side was shown to be post-mortem.

The artist of the shroud must have been a ghoul dedicated to his art.

First he creates a truly life like sculpture (maybe dead like is more appropriate).

Then he tortures a man and collects his blood for his art.

Then he lets the man die and then he know just when to collect the blood from his victim so that plasma and red blood cells have separated but rigor mortise has not yet set in.

Then he quickly paints the Shroud with this blood in just the right places to mimick the Christ suffering on the cross.

A true master piece indeed for an artist of the pre-Renaissance period.

Sorry, Brazilian 3D designer and researcher Cicero Moraes, is a talented prevaricator.

I am sure that he will soon be shown the error of his ways by real scientist.

Researchers have used forensic geometric modeling and image processing to reverse map a 3D human body from shroud data so not sure what this guy is talking about

Poppycock!

I was thinking more along the lines of equine solid waste, but this term will do. :-)

Interesting that the Shroud can’t be reproduced with modern technology but people living fifteen hundred years ago can produce this Shroud. In the negative. Why?

A year or two ago, there was some rich guy that was offering an award of $1 million (or maybe it was more) to anyone who could reproduce the effects of the Shroud using medieval technology. No one won the million bucks.

This "science" story is just another attempt by the godless left to smear Christians.

It has been know since the shroud was first revealed that it was created by man.

"Jesus said to him, ā€œThomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.ā€ - John 20:29

Our faith needs to be based on the witness of the Word of God and the witness of the Holy Spirit in us. Relics can be intriguing and interesting, but they should never be the source of our faith.

Dies his theory explain how ..if this is was made in the Middle Agesā€. What art technique was able to produce an image on the fabric with no paint.. no dye.. just curious…

If the shroud is real, why did more than a thousand years pass before it emerged, and how did it get to Turin, which is nearly 2,000 miles from Jerusalem?

I never understood why any credence was put into the possibility of the shroud being part of Jesus’ burial garb. There is no chain of custody. The Catholic Church is famous for their veneration of relics.

We have the gospels. We have the Revelation of Jesus Christ. And we get twisted over a piece of cloth that serves no purpose.
