At 62, Phyllis Jones felt trapped in darkness. She was traumatized by her mother’s recent death, ongoing pandemic stress and an increasingly toxic work environment. A sudden panic attack led to a medical leave.
Her depression worsened until the day her 33-year-old son sadly told her, “Mom, I didn’t think I would have to be your caregiver at this stage in your life.” “For me, that was the wake-up call,” Jones, now 66, told CNN. “That’s when I found the POINTER study and my life changed. What I accomplished during the study was phenomenal — I’m a new person.” The Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk, or U.S. POINTER study, is the largest randomized clinical trial in the United States designed to examine whether lifestyle interventions can protect cognitive function in older adults.
“These are cognitively healthy people between the ages of 60 and 79 who, to be in the study, had to be completely sedentary and at risk for dementia due to health issues such as prediabetes and borderline high blood pressure,” said principal investigator Laura Baker, a professor of gerontology, geriatrics and internal medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

According to the article: exercise, diet and socializing.
I haven’t looked into it yet, but saw an article talking about high dose b-1 for alzheimer’s (and perhaps other dementias) video showed reading skill and comprehension before and after - there did seem to be a marked improvement, however, I onw that with alzheimer’s patients can be really out of it for days on end, then all of a sudden have clear days where you wouldn’t know anything was wrong. Maybe that is what happened in the video- but then again, maybe the b-1 did improve things. Hard to tell. Haven’t researched it yet.
Also, stay away from negative people and democRATS. You will feel tons better.
Spend your days writing C++ code for image analysis does a pretty good job of keeping one’s noodle limber.
There are over 100 different conditions that cause dementia or dementia presenting symptoms. Anything from a UTI to true Alzheimer’s. It’s a minefield to navigate.
If you can figure how they derive POINTER from that title, and not PBHTLIRR, you probably don’t have dementia.
I’m starting day trading again
I hope it helps
Diet Sun drop at 120mg caffeine helps too
I wake up with two ice cold slammed and a Copenhagen long cut dip and I’m good to go
My rib says I’m funny early before I cloud up
“ If you can figure how they derive POINTER from that title, and not PBHTLIRR, you probably don’t have dementia. “
Or maybe you do.
Or the person who made up the acronym does.
Giving up watching media shows daily helps.
” . . .maybe the b-1 did improve things. Hard to tell. Haven’t researched it yet.”

also look up dr abraham hoffer. He used Niacin to reverse his mother’s dementia . . . back in the 60s.
The article gives useful advice on exercise and social engagement, but its dietary guidance is rooted in outdated, low-fat thinking.
The POINTER study reflects mainstream, conservative clinical practice—it endorses plant-heavy diets like MIND and DASH while ignoring emerging research on ketogenic, low-carb, and carnivore diets. That’s a problem because the aging brain often becomes insulin resistant, and ketones—produced from fat—can bypass this issue, providing a cleaner, more efficient fuel.
Ketogenic diets also reduce neuroinflammation and have shown promise in improving cognition in early Alzheimer’s. By excluding fat-centered approaches, the article overlooks a key metabolic truth: the brain runs best on fat, especially as we age.
You raise an excellent point—negative thinking is deadly at any age. It drains energy and sends a powerful message to the entire body: “Things don’t look good for you.” If a leader spoke that way to a team, morale and output would collapse.
On a deeper level, creativity in any field depends on a hopeful vision of the future and faith that one’s efforts can lead to a positive outcome. In all my years in business, chronic negativity and complaining were the second-biggest firing offenses—right behind dishonesty.
I too also saw that.
I'm on the "Carnivore" eating plan myself and haven't had any SUGAR or CARBS now for about a year and a half. My food intake consists primarily of Protein and Fat.
In the time I've been "Carnivore" I have lost 55 pounds and feel better than I did when I was 40... I'm now a 70+ year old senior citizen.
They could have asked cartoonist Scott Adams, who covers that in his podcast about once a week, and saved their time and money. Sadly though, despite doing everything right, Scott is getting run over by a cancer bus.
Sex covers 2 of those. So husbands and wives should do their 1 Corinthians 7 duties. It’s amazing how it always comes back to following Gods Word.
I was on carnivore from November, 2024 until last month. Last month, I went back on strict keto because I was losing interest in eating—and getting tired of all the supplements.
I love salads and other keto-friendly veggies, and now I love eating again.;-)
Will probably have Brussels sprouts with butter for breakfast and a huge salad with Romaine, spinach, celery, ham, cheese, and cucumbers for lunch (nothing for dinner but a protein supplement). Yumm.
Weight still down.
I'm 76 and do a pretty intense workout (hour-a-day, 5 days a week) with moderate weights, rowing machine, and a classic Step with 4-risers. To make my workout fun, I put a youtube cardio workout (loud music/video) on TV and alternate every few minutes between rowing, steps, weights to keep from getting bored. I keep my HR high on days I feel strong and back off a bit when my body tells me to. Works like a charm for keeping it fun.
The only problem I have is that I don't always sleep well—so I take a tiny amount of melatonin at midnight occasionally. Gets me over the witching hour.
Also try hemp/cbd for sleep, but not THC
Where do you get it? Does it leave you groggy the next day or have a lasting effect?
I buy mine at a thrift store. The stuff is everywhere. I take it before bed. It really has no effect on my head.
