Protesters gathered in New York City to hold a “We’re With Colbert” rally on Sunday in support of the recently canned ” The Late Show” host.
The rally was held outside of the CBS Broadcast Center on Manhattan‘s West Side, according to the New York Post. The outlet noted that only around 20 people showed up to the event, with most attendees — including the New York Police Department (NYPD) officers assigned to keep the peace — leaving shortly after it began.
“Our country is not perfect, never has been,” the event organizer told the outlet. The event organizer went by Matt and claimed his nickname was “Slim.”
“But we’ve always had the First Amendment, and now Mango Mussolini is trying to take that from us,” he went on to tell the outlet.
Cartelville Text Other protesters at the rally claimed they were there to resist oligarchs and billionaires.
“This is the Sons of Liberty, we are here to resist fascist oligarchs, wish dot com dictators, billionaires who have their boots on the neck of nearly every American citizen. Trying to take back patriotic symbolism from the right-wing,” another protester said in a video posted to X on Sunday.
“We are allowed to disagree, and if people like Stephen are not allowed to disagree because the president doesn’t like his opinion, then the president himself is not following the First Amendment,” said another protester.
“I’m willing to spend my free time expressing my freedom of expression, and I personally do not agree with our politicians meddling with our free press,” the protester continued to exclaim.
Many signs were displayed at the protest, with one saying, “Sorry Folks, But Ignoring It Is What Hitler Did,” as can be seen in the video.
Another sign said, “He Wants To Kill Our Laughter, Heil To The No No No!”
CBS announced that it would be ending Colbert’s show on July 17, according to a report from The Variety.
This decision came amid the merger between Skydance and Paramount, which is the parent company of CBS. There were speculations that hosts like Colbert would face increased scrutiny from executives at Skydance.
(please clap?)
Guess the checks didn’t clear.
Sorry, “Slim,” didn’t you know that these days you have to pay the theater kids to show up?
Oh well.
True.
And they won’t work cheap. They got used to USAID’s deep pockets.
Now that liberals are funding PBS maybe they can hire him … and his writers.
Tee
Hee
20 Colbert viewers in all of NYC. Sounds about right, which is why he was finally dumped.
20 wet diapers in NYC. The country trembles.
These was an episode of Frasier where this happened when he got canned from his radio show. I wonder if Colbert saw that one?
Make that $41M. Gotta show a profit.
And adjusted for inflation under Biden...............
Those that did show up were promised a free sack lunch.
Wow. His entire audience turned out for him.
