Cattle rancher claims restaurant serves ‘fake steak’ — here’s how they get away with scamming customers

Get that meat outta here.

In a world of various kinds of meat alternatives — it can be hard to tell what’s real or not these days.

A cattle rancher recently took to social media to share what he discovered to be a “glued meat product” and is instructing others how to spot one when ordering steak at a restaurant.

Rockin’ W Ranch Cattle Co. is a family-owned Angus beef ranch that prides itself on being hormone and antibiotic-free.

In an Instagram post that has sent waves across the meat-loving community, one of the company’s cattle ranchers is seen picking apart an 8 oz. steak filet he ordered at a steakhouse in Weatherford, Oklahoma, that he claims is not the real deal.

“…I should’ve known at first because it’s really hard to get an 8-oz filet that’s truly a filet because they don’t get that big in animals very often,” the expert is heard explaining in his video.

“When it came perfectly round, I should’ve suspected something. I ate a little bit of it and thought, ‘Man, something’s not right. So you can definitely tell this is glued together. Probably a sirloin that’s been tenderized and glued together to look like a filet.”

In the caption of the post, the cattle rancher shared some dead giveaways that this cut of meat isn’t what the restaurant claimed it to be.

“Since I raise and process around 100 cattle per year, I know it is rare to get a filet that big off of an animal. 2. Filets when cut off an animal are never perfectly round. 3. The price is another giveaway. When you can get a 8-oz filet prepared in a restaurant for $28, you should be suspicious,” the caption read.

So much for eating at Mom and Pops places...I’ll stick with McDonald’s - they have FAR MORE to lose if they cheat, so they don’t.

He's not making anywhere near $450K.

This is probably some kid raising steer on his daddy's land and playing rancher and posting for clout. Hormone and antibiotic-free is hard to do and very expensive. Add in cost of feed, processing, etc. and there's not much profit margin at 100 head/year.

“There is a product called moo gloo, used just for this purpose. It’s probably also used to make those deli counter meats like turkey breasts that are so large, they can’t possibly be one turkey breast, so they probably glue pieces together. Transglutaminase is the chemical name for moo gloo.”

Quite common although few restaurants of meat processors will admit that they use glue.

... 100 cattle per year is not a cattle rancher ...

Sure he can be, if he raised all his roughage and grain and processes the beef, too. He never said he was a Big Time Operator. Maybe he doesn't have a million dollars invested in iron, or maybe he has hogs or cash crops, or whatever.

In any case, raising that many means he knows a heck of a lot about the subject.

Bingo- they did the same thing to the MRE Beef Stew, nicklefvckers decided nothing is too good for our boys. Hormel Chili, same thing. Some weird amalgamation of pork and beef, allegedly. I just buy Chili beans in sauce, and brown ground beef & onions. Ten times better at half the cost.

"I was a paste eater as a kid. it’s an acquired taste for those of us with a sophisticated palette."

In grammar school, one of my classmates would eat the white paste used back in the 50's.

Disparage the individual who made these claims as much as you want, but I’m going to my Kroger and they have what are called bacon wrapped filets which are perfectly round and are obviously glued together pieces of meat. And I expect all the grocery chain sell them. They are glued together crap and sold for a pittance.

A little Common Sense tells you based on the current price of beef that these cannot be sold for what they are sold unless they’re crap. Of course if you need proof buy one and cook it and then try eating it

Yes a hormone and antibiotic-free 12-1300 lb. steer will bring $4500 on the hoof.
