In a way, Portland is relatively isolated from the rest of the world, and therefore free to go much farther off the deep end before the world enforces reality.
Even then, they kick and scream while the world ignores them. They’re too irrelevant to bother with, which just lets them go even farther.
I don’t think there’s any way of getting it back without severe public trauma, clearly identifiable as self inflicted. But at that point, is there any way of recovery at the individual level when their entire world view is based upon a pack of lies? No matter what they see or hear, it WILL be filtered through that leftist lens.
In a way, it’s like DC but without the connectivity.

Portland, Los Angeles, San Fransisco - and other blue cities are open air insane asylums.
A generation ago, these mentally-ill, drug addled homeless who have been locked up in mental institutions for life - where they’d be far safer than on the street - for them and for US who have to put up with them in our public spaces.
Yet lefties will argue furiously that homeless have a “right” to live in filthy, dangerous homeless encampments on our public streets, openly use drugs and use our public parks, sidewalks and neighborhoods as toilets.
I love feelgood stories like that, thank you!
