Comedian Jon Stewart tore into CBS on Monday for canceling “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, which the network described as a “financial” decision.
Stewart, during the latest episode of “The Daily Show,” defended his friend and raised the possibility that the move could be an effort to appease President Trump, who has railed against Colbert at times on social media.
“Watching Stephen exceed all expectations in the role and become the number one late-night show on television has been an undeniable great pleasure for me as a viewer and as his friend, and now Stephen has been canceled for purely financial reasons,” he said. “And by the way, not just Stephen’s show. CBS has canceled the entirety of The Late Show franchise. Gone.”
“Now I acknowledge, losing money. Late-night TV is a struggling financial model. We’re all basically operating a Blockbuster kiosk inside of a Tower Records,” the comedian continued. “But when your industry is faced with changes, you don’t just call it a day. My God — when CDs stopped selling, they didn’t just go, ‘Oh well, music, it’s been a good run.’”

Tell ya what John- you hire someone who COSTS YOU $40 MILL PER YEAR- then come back and tell us how wrong it was that you finally fire them!
It takes a really warped S.O.B. to think Colbert is funny at that time of the night.....or any other time of the day.
There it is: “This must be Trump’s fault.”
Like the swallows returning to Capistrano.
Colbert has always been a democrat hack. Putting him in that job automatically killed off 2/3 of the audience.
They were loosing 40 mill a year on that show with viewership dropping.
Let those a-holes reach into their own pockets and pay for their friends.
Late night needs to join up with the WNBA. They are have a lot in common. Whiny, unprofitable, not entertaining, woke, and ugly.
I am proud to say that I haven’t watched 5 minutes of Stewart’s show. He’s way too annoying from the clips I’ve seen.
That won't mean much of an improvement in the 18-49 demographic, and the people who would watch may not be able to stay up that late anymore.
Another congenital liar chimes in.
Bingo. There are suspicions that Paramount Global/CBS was getting "under the table" payments to "paper over" the US$40 million per year loss. How? By having USAID send money to an offshore NGO and the NGO sending back money through a back channel back to Paramount/CBS. Essentially, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was subsidized from what amounts to a slush fund.
