A 17% tariff was all it took?? The food business is all about high volume at low margins.

My tomato plants are doing great and consist of Cherokee Purple, Solar Flare, Heatwave, Early Girl and Celebrity, with staggered plantings, I should be able to ride this out for quite a while.

Why do we spell it “tomatoes” and “potatoes” but “avocados” and “tuxedos”? I worry about these things.

Del Monte brand recently filed for bankruptcy. Longtime producer of tomato based products. Maybe these tariffs can help them reorganize back to greater profitability again.

Hopefully they taste like actual tomatoes. The tomatoes from Mexico are just fodder with zero flavor.

Sure they do. All it took was for us to pay a 17% increase in prices to support them. Nope, no inflation in that move.

Oldest daughter has been running a tomato and other vegetables stand for four years now.
She grows Ivans which are so popular that she has customers pre-ordering them.
She also sells to a couple of fancy local restaurants.
This will make her very happy.

Nothing I hate worse than going to a grocery store to buy produce, and finding the only thing available is from Mexico. I won’t buy it, but will head to another store to find what I want.

IMNSHO, some of the best (if not the best) tomatoes in the country are grown right here in Hanover County Virginia. The growing conditions are perfect for them. I look forward to them every year. Any other tomatoes just don’t have any flavor. Too bad they aren’t available all year.

If I were an American tomato farmer I wouldn’t say that too loud. The gay, “hispanic” Senators who have spent many a lonely night with deported MS-13 killers will be putting out a hit on the farmers by the undocumented, Illegal aliens. They’ll end up shot in the face like the New York CBP.
