In this episode, I break down the music of Eli Mercer and explain why it has no cultural or artistic value.

You could rhyme it with creepiest.
Interesting. So, the second song started out similar to Smashing Pumpkins’ “Disarm,” but only at the very beginning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0hxEnJbT6A
Disarm, dat arm... unless you’re Richard Allen.
Well, a few weeks later this same guy sent me a text message asking if I'd ever heard of Suno; a "music writing program." I told him I had and I did not patronize it nor would I work with anyone who did.
Lo and behold, a week later, I got a heads up from someone that this guy's wife's "song" had been posted to YouTube. Sure enough, it was some lame-ass, AI generated Suno slop.
Ugh.
Fact: 50,000 songs are released on Apple Music and Spotify every day. Ten thousand of them are AI generated.
So, the slim chance actual musicians have to break out or build a following has been made even slimmer by those with thin or no musical talent who type prompts into programs like Suno and hit "Generate song."
It's all part of the encroaching, Brave New Globohomo World, where "sameness" is the goal and human creativity is reduced to a few clicks of a mouse or a few words blurted into a smart phone.
Bkmk
I totally appreciate Rick’s One-Man Crusade against AI in Music. I’m afraid that he’s up against an enormous juggernaut, though.
I hate the way it’s taken over You Tube, and the Visual Arts as well.
I watched this video yesterday. It seems like you and I are on the same page.
Lots of hilarious comments incl...
I wish I knew this was AI before I got a lower back tattoo of Eli Mercer.
I created an AI lawyer to represent Eli, and we’re suing for defamation.
I saw Eli Mercer open for Velvet Sundown in Gotham City in 2034.
I’ve been an Eli Mercer fan for years. Glad he’s finally getting some recognition.
It’s the end of the world as we know it. Do we feel fine?
LOL
Or...more cowbell!
If Warren Zevon can use brucellosis GPS is allowable. Of course Zevon was one of the greatest songwriters ever. So mileage may vary.
Correct. People may not recognize the acronym. Better to spell it out.
"I tried to contact
The Global Positioning Satellite
But I could not
And that gave me such a fright."
Okay, okay, I'll stick to writing fiction. 😊
You Tube should allow people to use real recordings as background music on their uploaded videos. everyone is forced to use AI music to avoid copyright infringements.
LOL
I was sternly lectured once by a former West Point professor on mixing up words from different linguistic roots in songs and poems; I’m touchy about it.
Both impressive and really depressing at how easy it was for Rick Beato to type in a few prompts and come up with an artist, name, face, and an album's worth of totally AI music.
And it's frustrating to know that companies like Spotify are doing the same thing, only plugging in these fake AI "musicians" into the playlists and then earning the money themselves that would normally be paid to actual human artists (who aren't earning these fractions of pennies as for every three minute block that an AI song is getting played, a human song isn't).
Beato and so many others have been sounding the alarms on this for a while. The record companies are getting involved in lawsuits as this totally generative AI music needs to use the almost endless catalogues of human-created music to generate the fake stuff. It really is a whole new level of intellectual and artistic property theft.
That’s True.
The AI music is maddening.
