Explanation: What is going on with this galaxy? NGC 2685 is a confirmed polar ring galaxy - a rare type of galaxy with stars, gas and dust orbiting in rings perpendicular to the plane of a flat galactic disk. The bizarre configuration could be caused by the chance capture of material from another galaxy by a disk galaxy, with the captured debris strung out in a rotating ring. Still, observed properties of NGC 2685 suggest that the rotating helix structure is remarkably old and stable. In this sharp view of the peculiar system also known as Arp 336 or the Helix galaxy, the strange, perpendicular rings are easy to trace as they pass in front of the galactic disk, along with other disturbed outer structures. NGC 2685 is about 50,000 light-years across and 40 million light-years away in the constellation of the Great Bear (Ursa Major).

I like those galaxies that are loaded with stars and perhaps planets maybe like ours.

I canโ€™t imagine what the night sky must look like from a planet in that galaxy. Itโ€™s gotta be spectacular.

I’ve seen posted beautiful galaxies with all those stars and definitely has to have planets in there.

The Andromeda Galaxy contains roughly one trillion stars, while the Milky Way Galaxy is estimated to contain roughly 250 billion stars. If only one in a million stars had an Earth-like planet then Andromeda galaxy would have one million Earth-like planets and our Milky Way would have 250 thousand. Here is a good Youtube video to see the magnitude of Andromeda: Gigapixels of Andromeda [4K]

If only we can look back at our galaxy from outer space.

Yes, and there are the Hubble Deep Field and Hubble Ultra Deep Field photos that show more galaxies than we can count. Itโ€™s just amazing that we have the technology to image those galaxies, and it all comes from Him, the Creator. We are just a small part of His Vision. He gave us the abilities to see it all.
