Cancer deaths linked to obesity more than tripled in the U.S. during the past two decades, a new study says.

Deaths linked to the 13 types of obesity-related cancer rose to 13.5 deaths per million from 3.7 deaths per million between 1999 and 2020, researchers reported Sunday at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

“Obesity is a significant risk factor for multiple cancers, contributing to significant mortality,” said lead researcher Dr. Faizan Ahmed of Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City, N.J.

I am not an MD, but I was obese some 10 years ago and gave up on high fructose soft drinks and lost 50 lbs.

Cancer can happen to anybody fat or skinny and I am not a statistician.

I know someone who has lost 60 lbs and counting by simply cutting out junk food, fast food, and soda.

Those carbs will get you every time.

“Being overweight or having obesity are associated with a higher risk of getting 13 types of cancer. These cancers make up 40% of all cancers diagnosed in the United States each year.

Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus.
Breast (in women who have gone through menopause).
Colon and rectum.
Uterus.
Gallbladder.
Upper stomach.
Kidneys.
Liver.
Ovaries.
Pancreas.
Thyroid.
Meningioma (a type of brain cancer).
Multiple myeloma.”

Of course, many other cancers have no link to obesity.

the headline says “obesity related cancer deaths”...and yet the article onlyy says cancer types associated with obesity. Seems like propaganda to me for covering a different underlying cause. Its certainly total junk science at the least.

How are they obesity linked? Just if they are obese when diagnosed? How can one know that their BMI actually caused or helped along their cancer?
