Daily Mail UK ^ | Independence Day 2025 | Natasha Anderson

A deadly flash flood has left at least six people dead and thousands fleeing for their lives after the Guadalupe River burst, engulfing several Texas cities.

The Guadalupe River rapidly rose overnight, breaking its banks and overtaking the small, rural towns of Kerrville and Hunt.

At least one family is missing after their entire Kerrville home was swept away by the raging storm.

Video shared by KPRC reporter Gage Goulding shows the rushing waves are carrying debris down the river as heavy rains continued to pound the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) declared a flash flood emergency for all of Kerr County, roughly 90 miles outside of San Antonio, after nearly 10 inches of rain fell overnight.

Heavy rainfall caused the Guadalupe River to rise rapidly, with the water level having already reached a near-record height of 34 feet this morning.

Evacuations are under way for locals living along the river, with authorities warning the of a 'dangerous' and potentially 'life-threatening' floods. Residents are urged to 'seek higher ground immediately'.

The emergency warning remains in effect for the area, as well as nearby Kendall County, until at least 2pm local time Friday.

Truly gut wrenching. So many families are searching for their daughter's and families ... all who were camping along the Guadalupe. These Camps have been there for decades.

Lord God, Father of all Mercies,

Help these poor souls. Our hearts break for their families. May the Spirit of God comfort them at this time of loss.

The river was right at where is has been all day. I went to do the dishes and looked out 20 minutes later and it has arrived. Boats are going to be floating down any minute. Ack, there’s a boat sightseeing. LCRA was supposed to have opened Starke and Wirtz dams earlier today to relieve the level some. Of course, they didn’t but they held it a couple feet higher the past two days so they knew - libs in their cubicles hours away.

People were swimming and boating and on jet skis when I started the dishes and now there is debris in the water. Have the local LEs been warning people to evacuate? No. They didn’t in 2018 either and told me I was lying about it flooding... 24 feet. That made it to our porch. It is supposed to be a couple feet higher tonight.

Ok, LCRA has opened the dams... maybe... don’t know how many gates or how far open. Don’t want to send anything to Austin, don’cha know.

Yep, see a boat coming out of it’s lift. Well, it’s going to be a long night. Prayers for the missing and gone.

Here’s another sightseeing boat, smh.

Amazing how the floodplain moved to include more land away from the river when the live humans monitoring the rivers were let go. Now days, it is monitored by computers in Austin. Computers and their operators don’t understand water finds its level and can flow into other rivers and creeks and flow up stream during floods. Yes, I was told water can’t go where it wants by LCRA in the ‘18 flood.

We’ve been here for 4 generations and another family was here before us. I’ve never seen flooding like these in recent years. LCRA will claim climate change but it is definitely laziness relying on computers. Garbage in, garbage out.

Well, someone just lost a boat.

With the Daily Mail, there isn't a need anymore for American newspapers.

There's no need withOUT it, either!

I think that in computer models, the flood plain varies with each programmer-we had worse here twice just since 2001-stupid computer models called the the highest flooded area the 100 year flood plain-obviously the computer program did not communicate with nature-or with any residents who remember that in 1987, all that same area and even more was under water-most of us have photos and/or videos of that and every other flood in the area since-it did not take 20 years, never mind 100...

Yes, this is awful. I keep seeing all the tweets from families looking for their children and posting their mobile phone numbers in case anyone has anyone knows anything. It’s heartbreaking.

Gotta wonder if that’s from the remnants of the hurricane that hit Mexico the other day.
