A meteorite, complete with shock wave, light trail, and flight noises (rumbles, light a train or close airplane) struck the ground northeast of Atlanta this afternoon, 26 June 2025.
Impact was visible from dash cameras in vehicles on I85 near the South Carolina border.
Meteor is any solid object hitting the atmosphere but burning up before it hits the ground. A meteorite is a rocky solid that survives its flight through the atmosphere and hits the ground as a solid.
Damage is unknown, some reports claim a house was struck.

No report that I have found on line reports finding the meteorite itself.
Some meteorites are more valuable than gold. Whoever finds it, if it survived the fall, could get rich.
Another non-catastrophe, but probably of interest.
If they hit a Tesla they are even more valuable.
Several Atlanta area people reported an ‘earthquake-like’ event on the volcano discovery website a while ago. I wonder if this was the cause.

Good Lord, how many dash cams caught it? Dozens? Sheesh.
That bright during broad daylight it had to be pretty big...
With the sheer number of dashcams out there these days, it’s tough to be sure.
There were some duplicate videos in there but that’s only because of the number of videos available.
But yeah... That was a lot of dashcam videos of it.
Did anyone get superpowers from it yet?
It looked like a lot of repeats.

I was lucky enough to see a fireball fly across the sky once. Went outside for a smoke, and just happened to look up at the right time to see it. Pretty cool sight.
The one I saw was during the Barak reign of terror, but here is a recent one to show what it looked like- only the one I saw was at night and lit the sky up as it passed.
I’ll take 2 of those please!
I think there is one in our town- I see it regularly- will have to check the model and make.
