The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will soon start a massive advertising blitz to encourage uptake of wearables such as fitness trackers among Americans, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said on June 24.

“We’re about to launch one of the biggest advertising campaigns in HHS history to encourage Americans to use wearables,” Kennedy said on Capitol Hill in Washington during a congressional hearing.

Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) spoke positively about what he described as innovative wellness tools and asked Kennedy to describe how the government is promoting access to such tools.

A little further in the article is this nugget: "Two divisions of HHS said separately in May that they would be utilizing information from wearables for research, trying to discern the causes of autism."

The heck you say. No...and I do not care what the reason to do it is...

A Trojan horse is, of course, worse than no horse at all.

Not a chance. If anything, fewer people will wear them now.

I’m betting processed foods, social media, constantly being in front of a computer screen and lack of exercise contribute greatly to most illnesses

No. Not only no, but hell no. This is another spy tool. OK, so it supposedly has health advantages. Great. But if it collects personal data and connects to the net, then it’s also a super spy tool with spying capabilities much greater than the cell phone.

The cell phone is optional and can be disabled if one wants privacy. How about these things?

No, no, no, hell no.

I do not love the “encourage” but at least it’s not a mandate.

This feels a little like the COVID vaccine. Trump 1.0 created it and said, “It’s available if you want it” then Biden came in and said, “You must take it or I will ruin your life.”

Agreed.

I use a step counter and it works even with location “off”. To my knowledge everything stays on my phone and is not sent to the cloud.

Thats it...no other wearable, watch or any such.
