Gov. Hochul rips Zohran Mamdani’s proposed tax on rich, admits soaring costs are pushing New Yorkers to ‘Palm Beach’

Gov. Kathy Hochul shut down Democratic Socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s plan to hike taxes on some New Yorkers — as she admitted high costs were pushing residents to move out of state.

Hochul was asked in a TV interview if she backed Mamdani’s plan to tax wealthy New Yorkers and up the corporate tax and flatly replied, “No.”

“I’m not raising taxes at a time where affordability is the big issue,” Hochul told PIX 11.

Mamdani has said he would impose a 2% income tax on Big Apple residents who make more than $1 million a year and inflate the corporate tax from 7.25% to 11.5%, the same as New Jersey.

“I don’t want to lose any more people to Palm Beach,” she said. “We’ve lost enough.”

Mamdani is polling second in the crowded Democratic primary for mayor and has been closing the gap with the frontrunner, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani has campaigned on promises of rent freezes on rent-controlled apartments, free buses and city-owned grocery stores.

His plan to pay for it all relies on the very tax Hochul said she’s not biting on, but he can’t do it without Albany’s approval.

You know how Albany defines rich?

Anyone eho warns a private sector paycheck.

NYS has lost over half its House seats in the last 60 years.

And Albany is replacing the makers with takers.

NYS is screwed if we don’t secure our elections.

Hi is perhaps an aagent of Governor DeSantis? Trying to get the middle billionaires and multimillionaires to move to Florida. In Florida they pay sales taxes but no income taxes. They pay their way without being annoyed by constant financial fleas.

That finally occurred toa democrat?????

NYS taxes are one of the main reasons we and our son before us, decided to leave the state.

And we’re not rich by any means.

Sales tax is about9% on top of all the income tax, property tax, and school tax.

New York and California has shown that socialism (regardless of what you call it) can not work, simply because there is not enough money in the world to to provide the necessities of life to those that do not work to provide it for themselves.

Taxing the producers to give to the non-producers is unsustainable, especially if the producers can move to another place where all their hard work is for nothing.

Every state the Democrats control are turning into third world S*IT holes.

Hochul is worried that her polling is going into the toilet, so she is lying about Mamdani's policies.

Popcorn anyone?

Hochul didn’t discover anything except a pile of cash from her former boss Andrew Cuomo to take out his nearest challenger in the NYC mayoral primary.

Gov Holum should take a good look at the JB Pritzker machine in Illinois. They tax everybody but the stereotype dem voter. And Pritzker went to Mexico to sign some trade-deal agreement with one of the Mexican states, probably to import more poverty into Illinois.

And it looks like Pritzker is running for the dem nomination in 2028.

“Tax the rich, tax the rich.”

Have the Democrat Socialists NO other categorical imperatives in their playbook?

Won’t work except at the point of a gun barrel and MASSIVE mobilization of dedicated foot soldiers. No code of law necessary.

The FL Cape Cod annual time shuffle is delightful and very enjoyable.leaving NYS and moving to FLA seems to allow for more travel and relaxation and happiness.

It is a shame that the vast majority of this state’s citizens have to suffer under such incompetent leadership. Most cannot move, so they suffer! But many still vote for Democrats! Maybe because those leaders make the trains run on schedule…. 🤔

If I had money & lived there, then I think there would be 2 states I’d move out of as soon as possible...and one of them would be Calif.

The people NYS is worried about is not the middle class earners like you and me who left in 1985.
Or all three of my siblings who left prior or shorty after.
Or even almost everyone of my dozen friends in Orchard Park who ALL left.

What they are worried about is companies like Goldman Sachs leaving.
Renting out their Park Ave building and moving almost everyone to Palm Beach.

So many high financial people making SEVEN figures or more have moved out of NY that it is affecting their tax base.
Even if they move their facilities to Stamford, CT it is a big deal because Manhattan has a extra tax you pay for having the privilege of doing business there.

They need the votes of all the poor people but the people who get Chucky reelected don’t live in the Bronx.
They live in Penthouses and have weekend places in the Hamptons.

Pritzker is bad for Illinois and would be a horrible reversal for the US. Illinois already has some of the highest taxes in the country, and Governor Lard Ass wants more taxes. He has no other solutions to problems except raise taxes. Then the people go run to Indiana and Wisconsin to avoid high cost, which drives up prices and causes scarcity here. He’s not just bad for Illinois, but bad for the region.

Shortly after the tariffs started, my RAT friends started sharing a meme, “who pays the tariffs? you do!”

Oh, they came SO CLOSE to recognizing the pass-through nature of corporate taxation. So to my RAT friends, I say “who pays the corporate tax? YOU DO!”
