Society may have overestimated risk of the ‘manosphere’, UK researchers say
The Guardian ^ | Fri 13 Jun 2025 | Robert Booth

Men who engage in the online “manosphere” and the content of Andrew Tate are often able to express a “strong commitment to equal treatment and fairness”, according to research commissioned by Ofcom.

Prompted by growing concerns about internet misogyny, researchers for the UK communications regulator followed the journeys of dozens of men through online content ranging from the US podcaster Joe Rogan to forums for “incels” (involuntary celibates). They found that while a minority encountered “extremely misogynistic content”, many users of the manosphere were critically engaged, selective and capable of discarding messages that did not resonate with their values.

They found it was far from a unified community: many participants felt the various subcultures under the manosphere umbrella were misunderstood, with extreme misogyny being grouped with benign self-improvement content. Several participants were drawn to it by its perceived humour, open debate and irreverence as well as connecting with views they found about traditional gender roles and family dynamics.

“This research does challenge the assumptions about the experiences and perceptions of individuals consuming manosphere content,” Ofcom said.

“Many of the participants expressed a strong commitment to equal treatment and fairness. They showed particular sensitivity to situations they perceived as unjust or discriminatory. This extended to issues specifically concerning men.”

The report’s author, Damon De Ionno, the managing director of Revealing Reality, which was commissioned by Ofcom to produce the study, separately told the Guardian it “suggests society has overestimated” the risk posed by the manosphere.

Ofcom is the UK's speech police.

That they're saying they've overreacted to the "manosphere" IMHO means they realized that the political winds are shifting. Shifting to what? To the end of sexual bigotry against men? Or to a new world of Muslim male dominance in the UK?

I dunno.

A friend and I are teaming up to teach a class on this book. If you have not read it, it is simply a must read for every man, especially if you’re still a teenager. But I’m 71 and it very much changed my life and exposed so many of the places I went wrong in my life.

Remember when Gavin Newsom was so worried because his son was into this? Has there been any update on this? How old is the son now?

The Guardian was left of the Communist Party when I was at grad school in the UK, and it’s worse now. Interesting to see that perhaps, just perhaps, the realization that they are laughable jokes is seeping into their tiny little heads.

“Society” pays no attention to terms like “manosphere.” It’s a BS term create by the left and rabid feminists. Normal people ignore it.

WTH is a "manosphere"? Is it like a bathysphere? Or the atmosphere? Maybe a stone cold lithosphere?

I picture the rugged, masculine "manosphere" looks like this. Or maybe two of these big balls side-by-side.

I don’t really think Andrew Tate is part of the manosphere. He is a misandrist who tries to con men out of money.

Every social movement has a counter moment.

The rise of modern feminism has demanded the emasculation of men.

Men, tired of being lectured about “toxic masculinity,” being told to cry and be more effeminate, being told they are bad because they like football and UFC, or that they are bad because of how they like to resolve conflict (direct and physical), that their physical nature is somehow wrong starting in grade school where they can't sit still in class 8 hours a day, have this world to flee too.

This is good thing - that men get to hear other men and how they think and feel.

Men don't want to be told they are bad for being men.

Three little girls get bags over their heads and die horrible deaths at the hands of their father,who was given visitation rights even though it turns out he was a monster.....on giving men their "due" the system has swung way too far onto insanity....

what shocks me is that men by themselves,can't figure out how to be a man....its sad.

So many folks wringing their handkerchiefs over a made up term and condition. A good person may use rough language to express a wise and caring thought.

Word 2 to wise: “Nihil Sub Sole Novum!”
Said another way:”There is nothing new under the Sun!”

~~~~~~
In what I have observed in my life, equal treatment and fairness are exhibited much more often by men than by women.
Sounds like Ofcom is bunch of British male fruitcakes who like to dress up like their mothers and play with dolls. They should go ahead and see Dr. Chopitoff, but a pride flag and parade around London with their king.
‘Manosphere’…. only from the minds of a leftist gender confused whackjob does this crap come from.
Ofcom is the UK's speech police.
Ofcom is attempt to backtrack and downplay their efforts because they triggered the Streisand Effect1 and brought more attention to men walking away.
Once young men have the scales removed from their eyes, there's no unseeing it and they're not going back.
1 - The Streisand effect is an unintended consequence of attempts to hide, remove, or censor information, where the effort instead increases public awareness of the information.
What a stupid remark. Pretty sure we don’t read every day about a man doing such a thing any more than we read every day about a woman killing her own child.
Seek help.
When we grew up and went to school
There were certain teachers who
Would hurt the children in any way they could
By pouring their derision upon anything we did
Exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kid
But in the town, it was well known
When they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them
Within inches of their lives
The Universe of the manosphere, circa 1974. Almost tame now.
Society overestimated?
The Political Left is 100% responsible for that over estimate.
Tax payers do not need "researchers" to explain what they can see with their own eyes!
I’ve noticed that rivalry among men is generally more good-natured than the nasty rivalry often exhibited by women.
