Ukraine's air forces shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet on Saturday morning, the Ukrainian military said.

"This morning, on June 7, 2025, as a result of a successful Air Force operation in the Kursk direction, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet was shot down," the military said on the Telegram messenger.

It gave no more details. Russian forces have not yet commented on the matter while Reuters could not independently verify the report.

Fake news - Russian pilots have 10s of thousand of hours flying and still more on the range with their latest wonderwaffens.

F-16s are so yesterday, and no match for ultramodern, sleek SU-35s armed to the teeth with an unequaled radar that is so good that, before they take off, they are already targeting hapless, under-powered Ukrainian F-16s. So there.

The Sukhoi Su-35 is considered a very capable and potent fighter aircraft, particularly within the context of its 4th-generation fighter class (though it's sometimes referred to as 4.5 generation). It excels in air-to-air combat, offering superior maneuverability and a powerful radar system with long-range detection capabilities.

Su-35 vs. F-16 in Ukraine: In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, Ukraine's F-16s, while bolstered by allies, are largely older models, and they may not be as competitive against the Su-35s in a one-on-one combat scenario, especially with regard to sensor and missile range.

As if Putin was such a pussy cat before Ukraine took out several billion dollars worth of Russian strategic assets.

In the end, Russia may give back Ukraine’s territory in order not to suffer a general collapse should the Russian rail system go down. Surrounded by thieves and yes men, Putin does not have a clear view of his circumstances and of Russia’s growing peril.

Of course the summer campaign will fail.

If it starts to succeed - additional European efforts will immediately materialize.

The two F-16s had been baiting that Su-35 for the past week.

True. And recent Russian ground gains are limited and prohibitively expensive in casualties. Meanwhile, the Russian domestic economy is suffering from labor shortages, sometimes in crucial sectors and skill sets.

The condition of Russia today has been described as "hyper-normal," meaning that, as in the late Soviet era, the governing authority requires that critical areas of weakness be ignored lest the illusion of normality be contradicted and undermined. The result is a growing but unspoken sense of crisis and dread in Russia.
