NATIONAL COQ AU VIN DAY

National Coq Au Vin Day on May 29 celebrates a delicious French dish known as Coq au vin. Join us as we share why this French braise of chicken, cooked with wine, lardons (salt pork), mushrooms, and garlic is more than a delicacy.

#NationalCoqAuVinDay

A French staple, Coq au vin translates to “rooster with wine.” It’s a rustic, peasant-style dish that is easy to serve when entertaining because a lot of the work can be done in advance. And since we all celebrated National Wine Day just a few days ago, you might be prepared and have an extra bottle on hand just for this recipe.

Different legends tell of Coq au vin back in the days of Gaul and Julius Caesar. However, the first documented recipe was in the early 20th century. There was a somewhat similar recipe, poulet au vin blanc, that appeared in an 1864 cookbook.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL COQ AU VIN DAY

Whether you make the dish at home or order it from your favorite restaurant, this holiday is worth savoring. We even have a recipe for you to try. Use #NationalCoqAuVinDay to post on social media.

NATIONAL COQ AU VIN DAY HISTORY

Amazing how the national day website chooses the least appetizing pic of the dish. Their burger for yesterday’s “hamburger day” was also very unappealing.

To make the coq au vin, first you must have a sharp knife...

In all my years of cooking, I have never made that dish!

I make a mean Chicken Marsala, though. Chicken, Marsala Wine, Sherry and mushrooms in a light gravy. Yum!

Where’s my supper? Oh, that’s right; I’M the ‘Chief Cook and Bottle Washer’ around here. ;)

Grilled Chicken, a salad straight out of the garden and a Veggie on the side. ;)

Loved that skit. Phil Hartman’s ‘Anal Retentive Chef’ was pretty amusing, too. ;)
