After the Missouri state legislature ended its session today without passing a bill to keep the Chiefs and Kansas City Royals in the state, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe said that effort isn’t done.
Kehoe’s calling for a special legislative session so that the state can pass his preferred package of bonds and tax credits to pay for half the costs of renovating Arrowhead Stadium and building a new baseball stadium.
Both the Chiefs and Royals have looked into leaving Missouri for Kansas if Missouri taxpayers won’t pay for the stadiums they want.
Last year voters in Jackson County, Missouri, voted down a proposal for taxpayer money to help pay for the Chiefs’ and Royals’ stadiums. Kehoe wants the state of Missouri to take up the cause, calling it, “a critical piece of economic development that I’d like to see us make sure we can solidify our offer with legislative approval.”

If you want to make Missouri mad.
Move the Kansas City Chiefs to Overland Park and name them the Kansas State Chiefs.
Taxes shouldn’t pay for entertainment.
It's in another county and doesn't even border Dallas. It can be fairly argued that it's a suburb of Fort Worth. But it isn't served by the transit system of either Dallas or Fort Worth, or the rail systems that connect Dallas and Fort Worth.
I believe if owners can pay players those enormous sums, they can build their own stadiums without my input.
Not to mention the high priced food and drink available to fans.

The only ones effected are those who go to the game. The game could be played anywhere for the fans watching on TV. Make them price the tickets to pay for the stadium. If they can’t just play all the games in Florida. Practice there too. The players would save a lot of money in income taxes. They can still call them the KC Chiefs.
The second impressive thing is the parking lot is co-located with the Chiefs stadium with freeway access. It is well planned out why change it?
Renovate both stadiums and call it a day - there is NO reason to move. The KC downtown area where they want to build the baseball stadium is among the highest crime areas in the metro, and I highly doubt they’ll ever come to Kansas.
It sounds like there’s no “Park and Ride” like some other metropolitan areas have.
Doesn’t Arlington have a UFL team also?
Perhaps the taxpayers should pay for maintenance as any landlord would. Improvements I dunno. The cities have gotta lose money on the rent while other benefits such as taxes make up the difference.
Dear friend I’ve known since high school was a big baseball fan. I visited him and his wife in a nice burb of KC and he drove me out to see the beautiful new stadiums. Died recently, and he’s not happy about this. Probably having a conversation with God now..
I thought the owner already said he was spending the money to renovate the stadium.
with money from taxpayers.
If I were a player I would prefer to NOT be in Kansas City MO, which has a 1% city income tax. Kansas also has lower state taxes, but this will be determined by the Owner, not the Players, and he will go with whichever side gives him the best deal.
They move a few miles over the line to Kansas City, Kansas? What’s the big deal? They will still have the same fan base.
Stupid to waste tax payer dollars on sports teams.
********
No taxpayer money for private gain.
What’s wrong with Arrowhead?
********
Nothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Arrowhead.
Cowboys haven’t been in Dallas since 1970 when they moved from The Cotton Bowl.
Doesn’t Arlington have a UFL team also?
