After the Missouri state legislature ended its session today without passing a bill to keep the Chiefs and Kansas City Royals in the state, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe said that effort isn’t done.
Kehoe’s calling for a special legislative session so that the state can pass his preferred package of bonds and tax credits to pay for half the costs of renovating Arrowhead Stadium and building a new baseball stadium.
Both the Chiefs and Royals have looked into leaving Missouri for Kansas if Missouri taxpayers won’t pay for the stadiums they want.
Last year voters in Jackson County, Missouri, voted down a proposal for taxpayer money to help pay for the Chiefs’ and Royals’ stadiums. Kehoe wants the state of Missouri to take up the cause, calling it, “a critical piece of economic development that I’d like to see us make sure we can solidify our offer with legislative approval.”

The Chiefs were originally Texans.
Just encircle the reservation and have the Indian Agent to tell them “You no leave”. Offer wampum and (non infected) blankets as an enticement.
Make The Chiefs The Dallas Texans again, and the Houston Texans the “Oilers” again.
Kansas City can have the Cowboys.
I went to a baseball game there. Beautiful park. Problem is there were no fans there. Anti-trust laws allow the NFL to keep their monopoly.
Makes me wonder how they are able to charge for prime time TV games outside of their home areas. We’re getting screwed.
Stupid to waste tax payer dollars on sports teams.
Studies have shown that professional sports teams do not bring all that much money into an area. They just reallocate money that’s already there.
Here’s an article about that:
Dallas doesn’t have an NFL or a MLB team. And the Chief’s owner already lives in the Dallas area. Move them there. Rumor is that Dallas is going to lose its NBA team to Vegas (that rumor must be true - it’s been officially denied).
Dallasites now have to drive to a city without public transit to see a pro football game (closest are Arlington or Houston) or a pro baseball game (Arlington or Frisco). And they may soon have to drive to Oklahoma City to see a pro basketball game.
Bread and Circus my friend, keep the people looking the other way.
They talk about economic development as being tied in with building stadiums.
This is such an old tiresome playbook.. Teams demand a new stadium, and threaten to move if they don’t get their new stadium.
Teams have moved sometimes when they don’t get their stadium.
But if a team moves out of town ,,life still goes on.
Professional sports are nice to have in a community, but the key question here is should public tax payer money subsidize those teams.
They won't do that so the owner will use his $$$ to renovate his current stadium.
All they have to do is to say no. The taxpayers are fed up.
Buffalo is an unique situation. It's a City in decline in the rust belt so they had to pay up.
Dallas doesn’t have an NFL
Neither does Arlington...Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!
What’s wrong with Arrowhead?
Reminds me of the idiots who built The Ballpark in Arlington, which lasted all of about 25 years, before they built a new one right next to it.
No dome.
It’s still an iconic stadium.
You are 100% correct. Politicians have been using this trick since the Romans.
**Teams have moved sometimes when they don’t get their stadium.**
Bob Lurie did it. (SF Giants). Tried to move the team to Florida. Businessmen got together and forced him out. He got what he deserved.
What’s sad is he was our hero when the team was going to be moved to Toronto. He stepped up and saved it for SF. He went from hero to goat.
The owners are in it for the money. Just look at all the injuries and now we’ll soon get an 18 game schedule. They’re like democrats in it for the power. Combine the 2 and we will always get screwed. The problem may be us loving sports too much. I gave on basketball 20 years ago. It looked too easy. Now they ‘carry’ the ball and don’t dribble.
Baseball. The universal DH did it for me. Purists won’t stand for it. The game still gives us the individual matchup between hitter and pitcher so I guess the essence of the game is still there-not for me.
Isn’t Arlington Texas a suburb of Dallas?
When you say Dallas does not have NFL or major league baseball, that is technically correct but very misleading because they have teams in the region.
If you were trying to say that teams must play within the city limits of a major city , in order to be a team from that city, there are numerous examples of teams which do not play within the city limits of the major city they represent..
It’s all about making more money. They want to host March Madness and they’ll host the Super Bowl once.
