It looks like the universe may end much sooner than anticipated.
Dutch researchers have looked into the initial theories about when the universe is likely to cease to exist.
The team from Radboud University in the Netherlands put their heads together and used Hawking radiation to come to a conclusion.
This theory is named after the late Stephen Hawking, who came up with the idea that black holes leak radiation and they eventually evaporate.
Scientists at the university then used this theory on other objects in the universe — neutron stars and white dwarfs, for example — and discovered that these things also disappear like black holes.
Neutron stars and white dwarfs are the final stage of a star's life cycle, and while they can remain in this stage for a long time, Radboud researchers have proposed a new theory that they too gradually dissipate like black holes.

They know less about the universe than doctors knew about meticine when they were big fans of bloodletting. My leech futures collapsed when they eventually found out the bitter truth.
i.e. I don’t take this stuff - or these people - seriously.
How can we not see it is a waste of time to argue with SCIENCE!
We’ve got a day less to live than when this was first reported here YESTERDAY.
Scientists Calculate Earlier End To Universe

Conceptual image depicting end of the universe by generative AI (© The 2R Artificiality - stock.adobe.com) In a nutshell * Scientists discovered that neutron stars and white dwarfs are slowly evaporating, shortening the universe’s expected lifespan from 10^1100 years to 10^78 years. * All massive objects lose energy through a process similar to how black holes evaporate, with denser objects deteriorating faster. Despite this “earlier” end, the universe’s death is still inconceivably far in the future—neutron stars will last 10^68 years and white dwarfs about 10^78 years. ======================================== NIJMEGEN, Netherlands — Scientists have just calculated that our universe will end...

The article doesn’t say what “end of the Universe” means. Is it a huge lifeless mass in which there is no energy available to do work because it’s all evenly distributed, or everything piling up in one huge ball which becomes a black hole?
Would be nice to know.
Scientists have been making predictions about the life of the earth and Sun for many decades. None of them have come true.
50 years ago we were all going to die in the coming ice age. When that didn’t pan out they say we are going to die in human induced global warming. Never mind that it has been much colder than now and also much warmer than now. Ocean levels rise and fall with our ever changing climate. The North pole has been ice free before, technically because of the polar ice we are still in an ice age.
Many people believe we can not continue to feed the entire planet yet the planet as a whole is eating better now than ever before in the history of the earth.
Just like “scientists” say we will run out of fossil fuels any day now. They of course have been saying that at least since 1970.
As long as we don’t go back into an ice age it won’t be difficult to feed the entire world. As long as CO2 as a percentage stays high in the atmosphere plants will grow easily even in arid climates.
Many of our scientists are not scientists, they are politicians or others trying to make a fortune on the hysteria they create. I shake my head at all this as I have been watching this nonsense for over three quarters of a century. People need to be less ignorant so these politicians playing scientists for money can’t pull the wool over your eyes.
Mark Twain once mocked what he called “long range predictions “. This is the long range predictions of long range predictions.
Fire and Ice
By Robert Frost
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Wouldn’t 0 to the power of 78 be zero?

Yes, therefore my comment:
Yeah, that’s pretty soon!
0 to the power of 78=0.

Yeah, that’s pretty soon!
That reminds me.... Zathras needs to update his restaurant reservation.
Panic immediately!
Never forget, Stephen Hawking was dumb enough to claim that the universe created itself.

The universe ends every day for some try not to worry about it enjoy your time but be good or your time speeds up.
Wouldn't call "plus/minus a billion years" anywhere near "exact."

There is according to the world astronomy community only a 2.7% chance Asteroid 99942 Apophis will impact earth in 2029...but given the way every government on earth has been spending like drunken sailors never expecting to pay off the debts coupled with the trillions missing in finds that went to continuance of government spending the probability is lively much higher. Of course the global governance would never tell the plebs an impact is expected they would just well spend like drunken sailors and build bunkers for themselves. Just saying.

“Scientists reveal the exact date the universe will end ...”
Nowhere in the article did they use the phrase “exact date”. The only place that phrase appears is in the headline which was written by the worthless editors.
I could never get the hang of Thursdays.
