Will Putin chicken out? Ukraine piles on pressure on Vlad to meet Zelensky as Russia stays deathly silent on showdown

Putin could reject his own offer to Zelensky.

UKRAINE is now piling the pressure on Russia as Vladimir Putin stays silent on his own offer to meet for peace talks on Thursday.

Moscow's bungle has seen Volodymyr Zelenksy take up Vlad's offer to for a face-to-face meet in Istanbul for long-awaited negotiations between the two leaders.

But the Kremlin has gone deathly silent as Putin weighs rejecting the offer he sent to the Ukrainians.

Zelensky has filled the dead air and now said he will definitely go to Istanbul - but will only meet with his counterpart Putin and not any other members of a Russian delegation.

The Ukrainian is pressing his diplomatic advantage and says Putin is being “very strangely silent” about his own offer.

Zelensky said: "Russian shelling and assaults continue. Moscow remained silent all day regarding the proposal for a direct meeting. A very strange silence.

"One way or another, Russia will have to end this war – and the sooner, the better."

Some in Russia have responded to the possible talks.

The deputy speaker of Russia's upper house said Zelensky's proposal to meet Putin was “comedy and spectacle”.

Konstantin Kosachev said Zelensky should "be afraid" of meeting Putin.

Putin will be a no show with Zelensky if he is having a spell of bad health. Xi’s 4 day visit tired out Putin. Hopefully his cancer came back. When he dies his war dies.

When peace comes, our pro-Russian posters will be unemployed

When this war ends, you'll be left to join Bill Kristol at the Bulwark and plan for your next killing field. DJT and his supporters will point to the blood on your hands and use your foreign policy perspective as an example of what not to do.

Dateline July 18, 1945: With the US on the verge of attacking the Japanese Main Islands, peace talks between the US and Japan are scheduled this week in Singapore. While Japanese Prime Minister Hersaki Jalenski-san is insisting that US President Truman show up and that the US give Hawaii to Japan among other demands, more reasonable people don’t see how that can be productive. However the Jeepers over at the weekly magazine, Free Republican, are demanding that Truman put aside his hard work in trying to clean up the mess made by FDR and the Europeans and instead make that trip to Singapore, as Jalenski-san will be attending.

This is pure bullchit. I saw this nonsense on X and it is straight Uke ZTV talk.

I would suggest to Zelensky that he should try shutting his mouth once in a while. So far, he has nothing to brag and yap about.

Exactly correct. The problem with the Uke side is that they blabber too much, just like our democrats do, which exposes their real intent.

Now he wants to drag Trump there. LOL

Just stop with the lying.

Tell your homo dictator to stop signing martial law extension every 90 days

( These disgusting pride parades were/or still are funded with USAID money.)

Hey bizarro, the proposal to meet in Istanbul on Thursday was made by your hero Putin.

Now you read that he’s planning to stay away, so you mock the idea as something made up by “neocons” in the West.

Never was there a more immoral bunch of liars than the creeps that support Russian aggression.

“The Istanbul meeting on Thursday was Putin’s idea in the first place. Now he’s trying to chicken out.”

I wonder if this is why Trump encouraged Zelensky to attend a few days ago. Maybe Putin offered the meeting thinking Zelensky wouldn’t go—but if Trump now decides to attend, Putin will look weak if he backs out.

Sorry to repeat myself, but:

It’s a trashy Brit tabloid, written for and read by ignoramuses.

Initial negotiations are never between heads of state. Once negotiators have hammered out an agreement and ironed out the details, then the leaders may meet for a summit to seal the deal and pose for “historic moment” photos.

But ignoramuses don’t know that, I guess.

Exactly. Putin has not proposed a face to face with Zelensky, but a meeting of their direct representatives without going through a third party.

It was President Trump’s idea to potentially go to Istanbul, not Zelensky’s.

Video of Ukraine Nazis conducting a press conference. It doesn't sound like Nazis will want any form of "peace". Trump should get out of there before the filth gets blamed on him. "Have fun".

.

Points the Nazi made:

These are the second Istanbul Peace talks. Do remember the last one Boris Johnson torpedoed, why should Vlad take the West serious?

The West and Zelensky simply can not be trusted, especially after the West and Zelensky violated the Minsk Agreements…best now for the US to fully withdraw and let the inevitable occur.

Vlad still holds all the cards.

AAABEST: "Putin doesn’t need to meet/talk with anyone.
He’s certainly not stupid enough to agree to any ceasefire while arms and cash continue to flow from the west."

"Arms and cash" will never stop flowing from the West, ever, so long as Russian forces remain within Ukraine's internationally recognized borders.

AAABEST: "Despite all of Ukraine’s resources, and NATO spending multiple times Russia’s military budget, Russia is prevailing."

  1. No, beginning in April 2022, Russian forces retreated from about half the Ukrainian territories they had previously conquered.

  2. This left Russians in control of nearly 38,000 square miles of Ukrainian territory, or 16% of Ukraine's 233,065 square mile total territory.

  3. As of today, Russian's occupy around 39,000 square miles of Ukraine, or 17%.

  4. Russian gains since 2022 came at the cost of some 800,000 Russian casualties, including ~200,000 deaths, which is roughly three Russians for every one Ukrainian.

  5. On military spending: when calculated at Purchase Price Parity (PPP), Russia's military is around $560 billion per year, compared to NATO which, not including the US, is now up to ~$800 billion at PPP (2.1% of combined GDPs).
The US spends around $1 trillion on national defense.
AAABEST: "I would give them all the middle finger and just start bombing Odessa.
Losers don’t get to dictate terms."

With or without their middle fingers, Russians have regularly bombed Odessa, along with every other Ukrainian city they can reach.
And yet they've been unable to make significant new territorial conquests since 2022.

AAABEST: "The delusion and wishful thinking around this is mind-boggling.
Even Trump hasn’t come to terms with the REALITY that his choices are what Biden’s were - walk away or continue tossing resources into the blackhole."

Not so "mind-boggling", because those are also Putin's choices.
Ukrainians & Europeans have no choices except to keep fighting & supporting Ukraine, so long as Russian forces occupy Ukrainian territories.
