The right believes in smaller government, and many personal freedoms.
The left believes in larger government, and few personal freedoms.
That’s really all that needs to be said. So of course the National Socialists were leftists. But they had fancy military uniforms. That’s the excuse used to classify them as right-wing.
Putting all these ideas together in one pot is an intellectual pursuit the public is not ready for. Trump is too busy slaying these dragons. Perhaps if JD Vance moves up the public will be more open to hearing it as they’ll be more ready to understand and Vance is more articulate.

Ironically, Stalin too was a “National Socialist”, he rejected Lenin and Trotsky’s Internationalism in favor of “Socialism in One Country”. His foreign policy goals were more aligned to those of the Czars.

Understood, but such folks still have do-gooder beliefs that are always used as the justification for what they do. Few people simply act depraved. There is always an ideology or rationalization used to justify their actions. It is this propaganda, which the also believe, that plays no small role in the takeover of soceities.
Keep it simple with Up-Down - with the undesirable extremes of Hard Up being total government and Hard Down being anarchy.
Using this scale, it is very clear that Communists, Nazis, and modern Democrats are spiritual kindred souls - and very Hard Up. :)
