Left-Right is a WWII-era Communist invention putting totalitarians on both ends to confuse the issues.

Keep it simple with Up-Down - with the undesirable extremes of Hard Up being total government and Hard Down being anarchy.

Using this scale, it is very clear that Communists, Nazis, and modern Democrats are spiritual kindred souls - and very Hard Up. :)
