A medieval cemetery unearthed near an airport in the UK has continued to raise questions for archaeologists, as the mystery surrounding it has multiplied.
The discovery of the site at Cardiff Airport dates to the 6th or 7th Century and was announced last year.
Dozens of skeletons were found lying in unusual positions with unexpected artefacts and now researchers have learned nearly all of those buried in the cemetery are women.

Somewhere I have a photo of a plaque in the UK that says, “On this spot in 1639 absolutely nothing happened!” Almost everything and and place there is a historic site

Perhaps the site was the location of a medieval nunnery; they always had their own burial grounds. And it was not uncommon for wealthy women — widows and young women of noble families — to join nunneries, providing much-needed support and bringing their wealthy trappings with them.
Seems fairly obvious, doesn’t it.
The men were off fighting someplace or another. When they ended up dead they did not get shipped home for burial. Thus, mostly women in the cemetery.

Probably a first-class lounge for medieval airlines. The mead was supposedly high quality.
This makes sense. Like you said, many wealthy older widows, retired into nunneries...
