An 88-year-old man and a dog were killed in apparently separate bear attacks near the victim's home in Florida, officials said.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call shortly after 7 a.m. Monday involving a "bear encounter."
The attacks occurred "some time apart" on Monday, and the man and the dog were found within a couple of hundred yards of the area, according to FWC spokesperson George Reynaud.
His daughter saw a bear attack the dog and then went looking for her father, who is believed to have been attacked earlier on Monday, Reynaud said.

That was before they chased the bear up and tree and shot b it.
I used to live in a NE Florida condo complex of 100+ units. There was a place to deposit garbage on the complex grounds. Black bears raided the garbage depositary regularly. We also had snakes, scorpions, in the lawns and each pond on the property had a resident gator. But I never heard of anyone injured from the wild life.

I’m up near the N Georgia mountains. My wife wants to retire in FL, I’m not sold on it. I like the idea of going to the beach for vacation, not sure the beach permanently wouldn’t become mundane at some point.
Me, I like the acreage in S Georgia I hunt. Put a nice barndo up and dig your own private lake. Of course I’d have to bring in some palms and beach sand for the wife.
There are bear around us and bear down in S Georgia. Never saw one in the area near Columbus, GA.
