If this article was meant to strike fear in my heart - sorry, it had the opposite effect.
Other than garlic, shrimp and some spices, this is basically a list of things that are either bad for you or nobody needs - certainly not from China.
Chinese wine? I didn’t even know that was a thing.
Chinese Caviar? Who needs it.
Tilapia? Weren’t we warned it was full of poison 15 years ago?
Sesame oil? Seed oils are bad for you.
Apple juice from concentrate? Bad for you. Eat a real apple.
As for garlic and shrimp - I didn’t realize so much of it was produced by Chinese slave labor - happy to pay a little more so the Chicoms can go f*#k themselves..
.
I do what I can. I used to do more than now. Way too busy.
[[ except that he forgot to mention the downside that we have suffered because of the lack of standards in China, the fact that our own industries will be revived, and the Children of China will be less inclined to being Chinese slaves.]]
They always do leave out the pertinent facts because the facts do no support their “Orange Man Bad” agenda
I used to buy everything I could at a farm produce stand. They sold their own produce and from other farms. I could buy the best garlic from them. One day I was looking for garlic and they didn’t have their normal, they had net bags of garlic. It looked odd, so I looked at the tag... from China. What?
The owner was there, I told him customers like me did not drive out of town to shop with him to get produce from China. Until that day I had no idea we were importing food from China.
“Who in the world trusts Chinese grocery products? I’ve been reading labels for years and if it says made in China, doesn’t go in the cart.”
Same here. I have read about the nasty conditions in China and want nothing to do with any of their food products.
We need to seen MANY more “Made In USA” stickers on the products we buy. IMO
About 20 years ago the ChiComs were selling a pet food additive that fooled the protein test but was really rat poison. Thousands of American pets died from internal bleeding including Onslow our Great Pyrenees guard dog.
I used to deliver freight to a Motts facility in PA. First time I walked on their dock there were numerous 1000gal containers full of apple juice marked that they were from China. I was very surprised. Turns out they mix it with homegrown juice.
Yuk.
Since I don’t buy any of those with any regularity......
The country of origin for apple juice sold in the USA varies by brand and product. Most apple juice sold in the U.S. is made from imported apple juice concentrate, with China being the largest supplier, accounting for about two-thirds of the U.S. supply. Other countries exporting concentrate to the U.S. include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Poland, and Turkey. However, some brands use apples grown in the United States, particularly from states like New York, Washington, and California.
Estimated percentage of global apple juice production for key countries, based on available data for 2022-2023.
Country | Percentage of Global Production | Notes |
---|---|---|
China | 60-65% | Largest producer, ~400,000 metric tons of concentrate in 2023/24, supplies ~60% of U.S. imports. |
Poland | 15-20% | Major European producer, ~100-150,000 metric tons of concentrate annually, key U.S. supplier. |
United States | 5-10% | Domestic production with U.S. apples, but ~85% of consumption is imported, mostly from China. |
Germany | 3-5% | Significant producer, mainly for domestic and European markets. |
Turkey | 2-4% | Growing supplier to the U.S., ~4.8 million metric tons of apples. |
Other Countries | 5-10% | Includes Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ukraine, Italy, France, South Africa, and others. |
if liberals are willing to pay double for organic stuff at whole foods
we should suck it up and pay more for American produce at a ‘American only grocery’ store.
and if you can’t afford it, just do without the luxury.
when Richmond had a chain of grocery store called ukrop’s, I only shop there exclusively. ukrops are a self made american dream comes true, I’m still good friends with Bobby, we went to each other’s wedding.
Their chicken jerky was also kill’n dogs.
Everybody — buy Martinelli’s apple juice! It is the best, very high quality, made from fresh apples (not concentrate), and is all American. I moved to California in 1973 not far from the Pajaro Valley and quickly discovered their fantastic apple juice.
Martinelli’s does not use Chinese apple juice concentrate for its 100% pure apple juice products. The company explicitly states that its premium 100% apple juice is made from fresh apples, not from concentrate, and contains no additives, preservatives, or concentrates of any kind. This applies to their flagship products, such as the Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice in various bottle sizes (e.g., 10 oz, 33.8 oz, 128 oz). The juice is cold-pressed from fresh apples, flash-pasteurized, and hot-filled to retain flavor without relying on concentrate.
Martinelli’s 100% apple juice is made from a blend of U.S.-grown fresh apples, including varieties like Newtown Pippin, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, Jonagold, Mutsu, and Honeycrisp. The apples are sourced primarily from the Pajaro Valley in Watsonville, California, where the company has operated since 1868 and maintains its own orchards, including organic ones planted in 2016.
The company’s “Gold Medal” process involves washing, hand-sorting, and cold-pressing these U.S.-grown apples to produce juice that is not from concentrate, reinforcing their commitment to domestic sourcing.
Martinelli’s, officially S. Martinelli & Company, is headquartered in Watsonville, California, located in the Pajaro Valley near Monterey Bay. This has been the company’s base since its founding in 1868 by brothers Stepheno and Luigi (Louis) Martinelli, who began producing cider from apples grown in the region. The fertile soils and cool coastal climate of the Pajaro Valley are cited as ideal for growing high-quality apples, which remain central to Martinelli’s operations. The company remains family-owned and operated, now in its fifth generation, with its headquarters and production facilities still in Watsonville.
The funny thing is you don’t see many Apple orchards in the Pavarotti Valley! The company makes single serving apple juice sold in the cutest glass bottle shaped and embossed like an apple.
“ I remember we at one point were shipping chicken to China to be processed—and then shipped back to us exposed”
I know we did (still do?) this with pigs. Pig farms in the USA sent the carcasses to China, then it came back as processed meat, such as bacon. Ridiculous.
Apple juice is nutritionally little more than sugar water. It’s probably one of the things that starts our children addicted to sugar.
I would not buy any food product from China. They pre-treat their sewage by letting tilapia feed on the effluent. See:

If you drink orange juice, you might as well drink a can of Coke.
“Even dog food from China is unreliable.”
I have heard it is not wise to insult Xi.
If you REALLY insult him you end up in the “Bodies” exhibit.
Everyday dissidents just end up as Alpo.
I recently bought 2 garden towers that use an automated pump that water and supply nutrients from a 55 gallon tank. Almost no maintenance. Swiss chard, green beans, lettuce and a lot more. Just ordered two more. Works great and I do NOT have a green thumb.
