Ryanair Drops $33B Bombshell on Boeing Over Trump's Tariffs

Ryanair (NASDAQ:RYAAY) just fired a warning shot and it landed squarely on Boeing's (NYSE:BA) front porch. CEO Michael O'Leary says the airline could cancel its jaw-dropping $33 billion order for 330 Boeing jets if U.S. tariffs start driving up prices. His message? If the aircraft get more expensive because of politics, Ryanair will walk. O'Leary made it clear in a letter to Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi: Ryanair isn't in the business of paying for Washington's trade wars. And if Boeing loses its price edge? He's open to alternatives, even China's Comac.

I hope POTUS Trump lets it rain down hard on any plans the Irish CEO of a discount airline has going forward.

I hear the ChiComs have replacements for Boings and they’re much cheaper. Of course they have a few minor problems like falling out of the sky and spontaneously combusting But in MBA think cheaper is better.

Get Ireland to reduce their tariffs - problem solved. Also, good luck with those Chinese knock-offs. Those planes will surely instill confidence with your customers.

Can’t see any quotes from O’Leary in there.

Other sources say this was in a letter to a supposed senior US lawmaker.

Funny how no blame is laid at the feet of the EUSSR in this supposed discourse. Is it real?

American tariffs don’t raise the price of goods manufactured in the USA and sold abroad.

How about O’Leary do whatever he thinks returns value to shareholders. You want cheap Chinese planes, go for it. New company tagline, ‘Cheap flights on cheap Chinese planes’.

I don't know about Trump, but as a customer, I will not be boarding any ChiCrap airliner, ever. I can't speak for other flyers, but imagine others won't either.

I bet the Chinese knockoff planes don’t have the feature for landing upside down.

Kind of funny, considering that Ryanair milks every extra penny they can get from their customers — ‘With your discount fare, you get to sit in the luggage compartment and have a bottle to urinate in. For only an extra $100 you can sit in the main cabin in a 10 inch wide seat and have bathroom privileges..’

O'Leary made it clear in a letter to Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi...

Why not write Trump, you traitor to western civilization. And is this Krishnamoorthi supposed to be sympathetic to the pleas of the no longer Irish Khalifate of Hibernistan, which has ceased to practice freedom of speah or Judea Christianity.

“American tariffs don’t raise the price of goods manufactured in the USA and sold abroad.”

Right. This article makes no sense. Another hit piece cooked up by the media.

Easy fix: establish RyanAir USA, and have that entity accept the Boeing planes. RAUSA can then lease the planes to other parts of the company.

Ryanair never had the best reputation to begin with.
I would never select them as a transportation provider.
Looks like they were replacing all the planes they poorly maintained over the years.
And if they think they are better off with ChiCom crud
They may as well retire and raise sheep.
