[Intro] Broken lines, broken strings Broken threads, broken springs Broken idols, broken heads People sleeping in broken beds Ain’t no use jiving Ain’t no use joking Everything is broken[Verse 1] Broken bottles, broken plates Broken switches, broken gates Broken dishes, broken parts Streets are filled with broken hearts Broken words never meant to be spoken Everything is brokenSeem like every time you stop and turn around Something else just hit the ground[Verse 2] Broken cutters, broken saws Broken buckles, broken laws Broken bodies, broken bones Broken voices on broken phones Take a deep breath, feel like you’re choking Everything is brokenEvery time you leave and go off someplace Things fall to pieces in my face[Outro] Broken hands on broken ploughs Broken treaties, broken vows Broken pipes, broken tools People bending broken rules Hound dog howling, bullfrog croaking Everything is broken
Most of the people who are “in charge” of things don’t even seem to try anymore. They don’t know how to run things or fix things. They can’t manage people, can’t manage efforts. They are just there to plunder the remains of civilization reap the rewards.
Our band took a stab at the Kenny Wayne Shepherd version. Great song.
Yeah, I proposed this to my band earlier, we'll see if it works. I didn't know KWS did a cover of it, I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
Boomers have their yuppies and yuppies have their little wannabes, whose kids are having kids.
I sang this song to myself all through the last pathetic administration.
It’s unfortunate that on this mix, there’s a heavy overbalance on the boogie bass and ultra-light on the Dylan vocals.
Good song, though.
You got to Serve Somebody
I saw KWS do this at the Ryman. Much sweetness to it. Also rumor has it Jimi Hendrix did a Dylan song.
Exactly.
Good one.
bump
Hendrix died a couple decades before Dylan wrote "Everything is Broken", so he'd have had a hard time covering that one....
But he did cover a few other earlier Dylan tunes, notably "Like a Rolling Stone", and of course "All Along The Watchtower"..
