A tragic loss has struck Fort Jackson, as an Army trainee assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment died during basic combat training this past week, the Army announced Sunday.
According to an Army release, the soldier was “found deceased during training” on Thursday, April 24.
In keeping with Army policy, the soldier’s name has not been released publicly, as the Army Casualty Assistance Office must first notify the next of kin.

Basic training has a history of having recruits die. This is nothing new...........
Exactly. Just because they’re in basic training, it doesn’t mean they are in the best of health. People die. At least he didn’t die in the video game section at Walmart.
Another death in a ‘training accident’. Hmmm.
1973 mid August.
They flew a flag that was to regulate physical
endurance tests because
Lackland AFB can get very hot.
I remember one day while getting ready for a
an timed endurance run, blue flag was displayed, that
meant light exercise only. I pointed this out to our (TI
USAF version of DI).
He said “What flag?”.
Fortunately raised in So. California and being a Cross country runner, I could handle the test.
but I think we lost about 4 guys out of 32.
to heat exhaustion.
I didn’t want any special punishment so I didn’t ask “can we do this again, now”?
We had two commit suicide in my building, and one had a heart attack during PT.
We sleep soundly in our beds, because rough men stand ready in the night to do violence on those who would harm us.
We lost one in basic on a run with packs at Ft. Polk and during that period (Vietnam) it wasn’t unheard of for a basic recruit to go off on the shooting range, range sergeants used to be jumpy and alert.
Turns out the guy had TB.
Yikes! I hope no one else caught it.
It could be a she. They did well not mentioning what sex they were.
He went to medical and never came back, they sent someone to collect his stuff. I imagine he went to the hospital.
Almost every post where I was assigned we had deaths during training exercises.
I second that.
The tank "training accident" in Lithuania in which four troops "drowned" is a "Hmmm" as well.
“The tank “training accident” in Lithuania in which four troops “drowned” is a “Hmmm” as well.”
The ‘accident’ in Lithuania had their government involved, so they couldn’t claim it was state-side.
My son-in-law was in final weeks of basic and on a training exercise stepped into a hole that went all the way up past his upper thigh and the other leg went straight out. He was offered a medical discharge as it caused lots of damage. He has recovered at this point.
