A year after his presidential ambitions collapsed, Gov. Ron DeSantis and his wife Casey can no longer lay claim to the future of the Republican Party. And in Florida, even their present is in jeopardy.

Once firmly in his corner, many Sunshine State Republicans have lately turned on DeSantis, stymying his agenda and frustrating him to no end. At the same time, Casey DeSantis, long regarded as a political force in her own right, is encountering quiet but firm resistance as she lays the groundwork for a potential run to succeed her husband — a campaign that would pit her against President Donald Trump’s handpicked choice to lead the state, Rep. Byron Donalds.

Me neither; it just strikes me wrong for a family member to run for the office held previously by - say a husband who was popular and termed-out by constitutional provisions.

Another thing I don't like is an EMT that uses the Lord's name in vain.

That said, I wouldn't turn away help from either if I determined it was in my best interest to get their help.

Say Casey DeSantis was running for governor against Hitler; or against a democrat; or against one of the many RINOs in Florida.

I can see myself accepting a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

So aside from not worshipping Pres Trump sufficiently, what has DeSantis done that a limited-government Constitutionalist like me should oppose? Pres Trump is gone forever, as far as elections are concerned. It is his IDEALS that need to continue, for decades and centuries... and as far as I can see, DeSantis is one of the few who ranks about as highly on those ideals as Pres Trump does.

So, again... what are these horrible sins of his that so many here hint at but cannot seem to detail? Other than failing to reflexively drop to his knees for the President? Can we get back to being substantive for once?

Never ever been a dem in my life. I did feel conservatives on this board would appreciate this story regarding Casey DeSantis.

What I do not appreciate is a spouse using the coattails of the other to springboard a campaign. How does a TV personality, who survived cancer, qualify to be a governor? That’s right, I would not support Hilary “Cankles” Clinton or Kari Lake either!!

I wouldn’t want a dynasty either - but it’s not a real thing here in the USA and worrying about it is just silly.

Calling it a ‘dynasty’ when two Bushes are elected POTUS (not even sequentially) - and another one runs - pure hyperbole. Same with the Clinton’s attempted twofer.

If one of Trump’s children runs, there will no doubt be pearl-clutching about dynasties.. but it’s ridiculous.

There are real threats to our Republic - like stolen elections and brainwashed voters - but a dynasty is not one of them.
