JD Vance tells Russia and Ukraine: Do a deal or the US 'will walk away' - as chaos hits peace talks in London

US Vice President JD Vance warned Wednesday that Moscow and Kyiv must strike a deal or Washington will end its efforts to reach a ceasefire.

'We've issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and it's time for them to either say yes, or for the United States to walk away from this process,' Vance told reporters in India, where he is on a four-day visit.

-snip-

'It's now time, I think, to take, if not the final step, one of the final steps, which is, at a broad level, the party saying we're going to stop the killing, we're going to freeze the territorial lines at some level close to where they are today,' Vance added.

'Now, of course, that means the Ukrainians and the Russians are both going to have to give up some of the territory they currently own,' he added.

They’ve had that all along.

The so-called sanctions were a joke.

That told plenty to anyone who bothered to look.

This “deal” is just a face saving way for Trump to abandon Ukraine.

Exactly.

Trump is a REALIST.

When Trump came into office, it didn't take long for him to understand that Zelenskyy did not want peace because it was not in the little dictator's interest of clinging to power to have peace.

NEITHER side wants peace and Trump doesn't want to keep throwing money at a losing cause.

Trump is merely attempting to leave the Ukraine more gracefully than Uncle Sam left Vietnam and Afghanistan and since we don't have military on the ground that should be possible.

Exactly. The Globohomos and Marxist Democrats never wanted Putin to lose. In fact when Ukrianians won battlefield victories in Kherson and Kharkiv during 2022 they couldn’t move fast enough to limit and slow walk aid to the Ukrainians. The globalists were/are all terrified Putin might lose. Then what? They know they can do Anti American business with Putin’s regime and always prefer him to the unknown.

They’ve been buying Russian energy all along.

The so-called sanctions were a farce.

That could have told the story to anyone who bothered to look.

Putin is a colony building globalist.

Of course.

The nationalists here are the Ukranians. Ukrianians want their own borders, langauge and culture while Putin’s genocidal Kremlin regime wants to again erase it.

I agree.

But the globalists are firmly in control of the Ukrainian government and its fine people, as they seem to be here in our country. We currently have no money to help the Ukrainian people rid themselves of both the globalists and Putin, nor do we have the time to do so as we try to save our own country against the globalists.

As I said, the war is between the globalists and Putin. Both are evil. But right now, the globalists are our biggest threat.

the Globalists only win if the continual war, death, and billions of flowing death bucks endures far into the future, imho

IMO, the CCP has infiltrated the globalists. It's they who win if the war continues.

Thank you for quoting at length from my "about" page. It is a pity that you omitted the last two lines that a fair reader might take as an attempt to make sense of the man. The last two lines would go a long way to explaining the varying descriptions of Nathan Bedford Forrest among which you contrive somehow to compel me to choose as descriptions of myself.

Perhaps the last two omitted lines might serve your purpose, but then they again might prove contrary to your purpose.

The German flag is there only because it shows the place from which my replies are written, not the homeland where my heart resides.

For the record, I support AFD, regarding it, like Trump's administration, the only realistic hope for recovery of a country sorely beleaguered by leftist policies. I do note, however, that the AFD platform calls for very close trade and diplomatic relations with Russia and with China. Moreover, the AFD's express attitude towards foreigners such as myself is not one of herzlich willkommen, but when judging AFD, one considers, or should, the whole, just as one applies reasoning and judgment when considering the various policies of the Trump administration.

For the record, I have consistently supported Trump, especially his fight to save the economy, except his policy concerning Ukraine.

Trump is a REALIST.

Destroying the trust and goodwill that the US has built up since WWII is not being a realist. It is being shortsighted.

When Trump came into office, it didn't take long for him to understand that Zelenskyy did not want peace because it was not in the little dictator's interest of clinging to power to have peace.

Yeah, right! Zelensky is only fighting for his own personal interests. This is a slander of the worst kind. Those who are opposed to Ukraine do not seem to understand the choices that are in front of Ukrainians. They either fight or they once again come under the domination of Russia, and eventually see their national identity erased. This has never been about the threat of NATO expansion. It has been about the Russian nationalists dream of erasing Ukraine and bringing it back under Moscow's control. There are even some pro-Russians here on Free Republic who have expressed that idea.

"But then again" --

For the reader, "We cannot truly say this of Thomas Jefferson but we can say that, rightly understood, the use of the name and avatar of Nathan Bedford Forrest is to invoke not merely a unique historic figure but a living biblical parable."

Which parable would that be?

As to Germany, we were legal residents there for decades as I worked all across Europe. I supported the AfD early on and openly to our neighbors, when they first organized. I support them still.

As to "I have consistently supported Trump, especially his fight to save the economy, except his policy concerning Ukraine," there was no question that this was clear. Therein lies our difference of stance.

Which biblical parable expresses what you have suggested?

Trump’s genius is theatrical strategic deception. He floods the zone with maximalist threats, tweets, and headline‑grabbing superlatives that convince friend and foe alike he’s about to yank the pin from every geopolitical grenade on the board. Yet, time and again, just as the world braces for detonation, the explosion never comes; instead, America walks away having banked the concession it wanted all along. It is poker on a planetary scale, and the pot keeps sliding to the red, white, and blue.

How one can contrive to attach this description of Donald Trump's negotiating tactics to what he has actually done in negotiating over Ukraine, must be triumph of self deception.

Trump did not "flood the zone with threats" rather he opened negotiations without consulting his ally, Ukraine, (ally from the beginning whether we want to disown them now or not) and proceeded to give away the store, conceding virtually every demand Putin could raise.

America did not "walk away having banked the concessions it wanted all along", it has banked nothing but then it asked for virtually no concessions all along.

This business of ascribing genius to Trump playing 4D chess reminds me of the mindless drivel appearing on these threads exhorting us all to rely on Trump's genius because he had allegedly a plan to stay in the White House in 2021.

Trump has not negotiated as a genius, he has inverted the principles of the, "Art of the Deal," and in doing so he has betrayed an ally, antagonized all our allies in Europe, given Putin the store, and rendered America untrustworthy as an ally in the Pacific rim where we all face China. Further, he unnecessarily made his negotiations over tariffs more difficult than they needed to be.

Still their remains the chance that he can redeem the situation and contrive to preserve the existence of Ukraine, but I'm not even sure he would do that if even he could.

Either Putin and Zelenskyy want peace or they don’t. My guess from far-away observation is they don’t.

Sure, Putin would win if the war continues.

That is not at all sure, although Trump has repeatedly stated it as part of his catechism as though to justify abandoning Ukraine. Putin has serious problems that could well lead him to cave. We do not have second sight, we do not know the future, and we certainly have no standing to proclaim that we do.

The war is between the globalists and Putin.

I thought the war was between Ukraine and Russia with the United States and our European allies in support of Ukraine.

I don't know how to define "globalists" apart from those who would trade internationally, but I think it might apply to nations that invade their neighbors, like those who invade Georgia, Chechnya, Ukraine.
