US weapons left in Afghanistan sold to militant groups, sources tell BBC

Half a million weapons obtained by the Taliban in Afghanistan have been lost, sold or smuggled to militant groups, sources have told the BBC - with the UN believing that some have fallen into the hands of al-Qaeda affiliates.

The Taliban took control of around one million weapons and pieces of military equipment - which had mostly been funded by the US - when it regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, according to a former Afghan official who spoke to the BBC anonymously.

As the Taliban advanced through Afghanistan in 2021, many Afghan soldiers surrendered or fled, abandoning their weapons and vehicles. Some equipment was simply left behind by US forces.

The cache included American-made firearms, such as M4 and M16 rifles, as well as other older weapons in Afghan possession that had been left behind from decades of conflict.

Sources have told the BBC that, at the closed-door UN Security Council's Sanctions Committee in Doha late last year, the Taliban admitted that at least half of this equipment is now "unaccounted" for.

A person from the committee said they had verified with other sources that the whereabouts of half a million items was unknown.

In a report in February, the UN stated that al-Qaeda affiliates, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, and Yemen's Ansarullah movement, were accessing Taliban-captured weapons or buying them on the black market.

And that should surprise no one.

In some ways, this debacle is worse than Vietnam. All of Vietnam is now communist, but it’s a peaceful nation. And the predicted “domino effect” never happened.

On the other hand, the fall of Afghanistan has emboldened Muslims to cause even more trouble everywhere. And thanks to Biden, they have the weapons to do so.

Hardly new information to anyone who still has at least one neuron firing in the brain. (That excludes Biden.)

There’s a shocker. Leave billions of dollars of arms behind as you flee a country - billions of dollars confiscated from US taxpayers - and watch as the arms are sold to terrorists who will target the US, among others. Biden was a disaster and Milley needs to be court-martialed.

The traitor and coward Robinette and the other pedophile democrats led the US on its most shameful surrender in the history of this nation. We will remember this traitor party for many generations.

You do make an interesting point. There is currently socialist/communist “domino effect”. We see that in today’s Democrat party. Where are the D moderates? Most every Democrat today is an AOC radical.

But don’t think the Vietnam debacle has anything to do with it. Other forces are at work.

“And the ATF is dilligently tracking them all by serial number, right?”

Maybe we could get the Colorado legislature to pass a law prohibiting their use. Maybe a magazine ban too?

Same thing happened when Democrats violated the support agreement of SouthVietnam. We’d established a treaty and the DNC reneged. So, all the arms went to the commies who took over — and then murdered all who didn’t catch that last helicopter out.

This is typical DNC behavior, cut&run when they no longer get paid.

I'm sure the newest, most advvanced stuff was sold to the Chinese years ago... someday China will hit us with our own weapons thanks to that idiot Biden and his stupid goons and thugs who ran the White House... and the corrupt press that play the role of blind butt kissers.

Obama Admin years 13-16.... Of course this happened. Didn’t they do with crap with wingman Eric the Holder and the whole Mexican gun running Frame a Lawful Gun Owner shtick in Obama Admin years 1-4?

The DNC is a criminal organization.

They used every facet of public ownership to find creative ways to turn a buck at the tax payers expense.

Everytime the US lost something someone or the Intel Agencies got some Black Gold or profits.

After Trump gets past year 2 and has prosecuted enough of the Government Appointees to make the case against the elected officials, maybe we can begin to make headway on Insider Trading of Stocks and Securities, as well as the illegal proceeds from USG distributions revolving back into USG Officials pockets. Every third world corruption was introduced into the US under Obama and Biden.

For those that cannot be properly prosecuted because someone Trump loves that can’t be prosecuted for the same crimes, they should be offered deals to STFU, GO AWAY OR DIE, and at the same time give the USG back 75% of the stolen goods.

If a citizen had stolen each of these weapons and comm stes and vehicles, etc, and sold them to terrorists, how many individual felonies could be charged? How come not nearly that many felonies are being charged against the Biden military officials who enabled this? (Is it somehow within one’s “official duties” to ensure weapons transfers to enemies, thus invoking sovereign immunity?)
