Agun discharged Thursday inside the backpack of a 9-year-old in Maryland while the student was in school, following a similar incident days earlier in Virginia.

The incident occurred in southern Maryland, at Billingsley Elementary School, according to a Washington NBC News affiliate.

A school resource officer and teacher said they recovered the gun right after it went off.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office is investigating the situation.
Three days earlier, a handgun went off in a third-grader's backpack at a school in Virginia.

First firearm I ever saw in school for Show and Tell was back in 1956. It was a military single shot from the 1830s. We all thought it was “neat!”
Today society has made guns something to be frightened of which has made them attractive to children.

All kidding aside, Mississippi must have been a fascinating state in the 50s, and I don’t mean the 50s as a specific era but as part of the pre-70s/80s/90ss world of the state, it must have been a heaven for little boys.

If it went off my itself, I’m not sure I would want to try to recover it.

I had a folding pocket knife in my pocket from 2nd grade onward. Purchased at the local Speedee Mart for $2 in 1963. I still have it. I carried a folding pocket knife daily including on airplane flights through 1984. I almost had a nice Gerber work anniversary pocket folder confiscated at the Oakland airport. I stopped carrying for flights from that point forward. I still have that folder too. My EDC is now a CRTK Obake in a nice kydex sheath. A fine letter opener. It gets put away on trips to the hospital and courthouse.
The woman dominated school system is also responsible for dealing with boys by medicating them so they are compliant like little girls. It starts in the K-6 elementary schools.

I also consider a knife important and for years have been carrying the large Benchmade Rukus, but I’m hoping to get my large Spyderco Civilian out of storage because I want its less assertive fighting style, for bars I used to wear my Glock sheath knife, except at times when I felt better with my full size Bagwell designed Hells Belle.
Around the house I wear a neck knife and sometimes clip on a dagger.

You have good taste in cutlery. Before my cancer festivities last year, I had a CRKT "Fossil" in my left pocket and another smaller CRKT with Veff serrations in my right pocket. I just got back to being able to wear my regular Wrangler/Lee jeans in early February, so those will resume EDC soon.
