More than 200 people aboard a still-at-sea Cunard Line cruise bound for New York, including members of the crew, contracted norovirus in the latest cruise ship outbreak of the nasty stomach bug.

Of the 2,538 guests on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, 224 reported getting ill on the current voyage along with 17 crew members, this month, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The cruise departed from Southampton, England on March 8 to set out for New York and later the Caribbean. The entire journey, however, doesn’t conclude until April 6, leaving the rest of the guests stuck at sea as the viral infection sweeps through the ship.

One of many reasons why I won’t be stuck on a ship with people from all over the world that don’t have the cleanest habits, both kids and adults sneezing all over, food left out, etc. No thanks, too much activity for me also, I like it quiet and relaxing.

I went on a cruise in 2004. My mom had won the cruise at work. One of the servers keep asking if me if I would like to leave the boat and go to Trinidad where he lives. Which was five hours away by plane where we were in the Bahamas. Weirdo.

I won’t go on one of those giant petri dishes, either.

Don't eat from buffets. Stay out of public use hot tubs and pools, use your own shopping basket for grocery shopping, use your chip card and don't touch the pin-pads. Grow your own produce as much as possible. Bake your own as much as possible. Brew your own as much as possible.

Keep your dogs and cats as your contact circle, and avoid most people. They cause trouble. Eat your own pound of dirt, not someone else's.

I’ll take a staycation. People are gross. Animals are a million times cleaner and nicer to be around.

Not everyone was sick, only 7%. Why the difference?

My grandmother died on the Yarmouth Castle disaster. Her body was never recovered. Needless to say, no cruise ship floating biolab adventures in this family.

Fly, and if it's farther away than the 200 gallons of avgas can reach, stay on the continent.

I heard Cunard has no less than 7 ships with norovirus outbreaks......AND the Queen Mary II has a norovirus outbreak.

I don’t mind flying in itself, but I hate to be in a line behind someone who hasn’t taken a shower in a week or more. Same for buses & trains. A nice quiet restaurant I like, as for shopping malls, gotta go sometimes, can’t wait to leave though.

You might want to stay away from schools and from those attending k-12 schools.

While both schools and cruise ships can experience norovirus outbreaks, outbreaks on cruise ships are often more visible due to the close quarters and high-profile nature of travel, but outbreaks in schools and childcare centers are more common.

No. No desire to be on a boat with a thousand people and their screaming kids. Disease spreads like wildfire in enclosed spaces and what do you do when you have obnoxious tourists in the next cabin? I have plenty of friends and relatives who have gone on cruises, some have had good experiences, but just as many have not. If I’m going to spend some money, I’ll rent an RV and tour the country. That’s my idea of a vacation.

My wife and I did not get sick for many years, then our kids went to school, brought home all sorts of disease. Our kids got over being sick in a day or two. I felt like warmed over death for a week. Yuk.

My wife had a bout of Norivirus just after Christmas public events exposures. After ten days she had to go to the hospital. A bunch of IV fluids bags, anti-nausea meds injections, a few B Vitamins cocktails, and wait for it..
... An Ivermectin shot. It took another ten days for her to be back to herself. I never got real sick. Just a touch of nausea and diarrhea lasting a few days. Sympathy sick IMHO. Married 42 years and you become one and the same.
