Boston mayor under fire for doubling down on sanctuary city laws in pro-immigrant speech

Boston’s Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu is taking heat from local leaders for doubling down on liberal sanctuary city laws, and insisting “we stand with immigrants.”

Wu has previously stated that Boston will not cooperate with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations — which she reiterated during her State of the City address Wednesday night.

“No one tells Boston how to take care of our own, not kings, and not presidents who think they are kings. Boston was born facing down bullies,” she said in her speech.

“You belong here,” she told immigrants.

Wu’s speech outraged conservative local leaders who oppose shielding illegal immigrants from ICE, claiming they put Bostonians at risk.

Massachusetts GOP spokesperson Logan Trupiano told Fox News that “there is simply no justifiable reason for her to stand in the way of this critical progress.”

“Mayor Wu must move beyond fearmongering and the mischaracterization of ICE and federal authorities,” he said.

“The city’s sanctuary policies have led to the release of dangerous individuals back into our communities, undermining public trust and security,” Trupiano added.

Trupiano said that Wu does not speak for Boston’s 650,000 residents — and noted a surge in arrests of illegal immigrant child sex predators and other criminals in the area.

‘“No one tells Boston how to take care of our own, not kings, and not presidents who think they are kings. Boston was born facing down bullies,” she said in her speech.’

The only bullies and so called kings I see are on the left. She’s just projecting as usual.

Hmmmmm…

The same city that had a embargo of flights & shipping from Portugual from the late 1970’s to about 1990 due to a illegal Portuguese problem.

I hope she keeps on running her mouth until Homan and Patel can make a solid aiding and abetting case. Ten years in a federal pen might give her time to get her head on straight.

Boston had a long stretch of profitable slaving

She probly mixed the illegals up with the slave immigration of the city's past; all that money changing hands and all.

“Illegal aliens and those who harbor them are felons.”

“No one is above the law.”

Bullshiit. I will be DEAD before seeing a city Mayor or State governor arrested. We are so weak. In 2020, we watched cities burn down and today, cars being torched, and do nothing but talk about jail. We continue to condone bad behavior.

Maybe I'm thinking about opium. Boston traders visited China a lot for opium and I'll bet the Mayor's familiar with those stories, too, being Chinese and all.

I'm still thinking slavers, though.

https://www.wbur.org/news/2017/07/31/opium-boston-history

How about that? It was both. Opium and slaves. Traded by the Boston elite...

Jonathan Goldstein, a research associate at Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, says Boston merchants defended the trade, "even though they knew it was a debilitating drug that ruined lives." Their thinking, says Goldstein, was that opium was no worse than alcohol and better than other forms of trade, namely: slaves.

Opium was seen as "mild by comparison," Goldstein says.

The Perkins family indeed traded slaves from a base in Haiti in the late 1700s. Business shifted to China and opium in the early 1800s and later some members of the next generation condemned slavery. By the mid-1800s, Murray Forbes had become an active abolitionist. But on the business side, there are strong connections between the slavery and opium trades.

"The kind of expertise they [Perkins and Co.] bring to [opium] in terms of managing goods and finances is something that starts in the slave trade," says Dael Norwood, an assistant professor of history at Binghamton University who studies 19th-century U.S.-China trade.

And money earned selling slaves helped fund the China trade.

"It's the capital that ties it all together," Norwood says.

Yessirree, Bob. It's the capital that ties it all together.
