Parents of girl who died after measles infection said they wouldn't get MMR vaccine (West Texas family)
Fox News ^ | March 22, 2025 | Melissa Rudy

The parents of a young girl who died after contracting measles last month in West Texas are speaking out about their position on the MMR vaccine.

The child, age 6, died on Feb. 26 after being hospitalized in Lubbock, as reported by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The agency stated it was "the first death from measles in the ongoing outbreak in the South Plains and Panhandle regions" — adding that the child was not vaccinated.

The family lives in Seminole, Texas, in Gaines County, which is where the vast majority of measles cases have occurred in the current outbreak.

On March 15, the child’s parents spoke with Children’s Health Defense about the experience in an interview that aired on "Good Morning, CHD."

When the girl, named Kaylee, first got sick, the parents said they figured it was measles because the illness was "going around" in their community.

Two days after the girl developed a rash, her mother took her to the doctor, who provided a cough remedy and recommended fever-reducing medication.

Although Kaylee’s measles started to go away, she began developing complications, including a fever that continued to rise, her parents told Children’s Health Defense.

At the hospital, in addition to measles, Kaylee was found to have pneumonia in her left lung. She was admitted to the ICU and put on a ventilator.

The child passed away shortly after that.

The couple’s four other children developed measles after their sister’s death — but all recovered after receiving breathing treatments, the parents said.

Even after their daughter’s death, the parents are not proponents of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR vaccine).

"We would absolutely not take the MMR [vaccine]," Kaylee’s mother said. "The measles wasn't that bad. They got over it pretty quickly."

I grew up outside Boston in the early 1950’s and in the hot summer, running under the lawn sprinkler to cool off was prohibited by Mom as were trips to the amusement park.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That’s not at all like my neighborhood as a kid. The discussion would have gone something like this...
Neighbor No. 1... “I heard that the Smith’s boy/girl got measles/mumps.... “
Neighbor No. 2... “Oh good... let me send my kids over there so that they can catch it. So nice to get this thing out of the way when they are young so they will have immunity.”
I think the covid shot did great damage to a generation, you g families don’t trust the CDC but also why can’t they separate all the vaccines and a parent can choose which ones they want?
"Put on a ventilator."
Make of it what you will..
I'm near 81 years old and I have stage 4 COPD. I got double pneumonia last December and they didn't even put me in the hospital....go figure.
I hate the obvious lessening of intelligent comments on FR. As far as everyone getting measles and no one dying from it: There are two major types of measles—German (also known as Three Day) Measles and Red Measles. German Measles is a relatively mild disease. Red Measles is far more serious. Nobody died? Ignorance. It was one of the leading causes of death at one point. Thousands died.
D and F students have apparently learned how to use the internet and have lowered the intelligence level of discussions in internet forums. At least your parents and grandparents were intelligent enough to get the measles vaccine. Ironically, therefore, some of you live to make stupid comments about diseases and vaccines.
Please note that CedarDave was talking with me about polio. Parents were terrified of the disease, and of course rightly so.
"those born before 1957 are very likely to have had the disease and have natural immunity"
I was born in 1953, so I'm good to go. I acquired natural immunity to Covid-19 last January.
"...and as some believe could cause other issues such as autism. "
The autism claims were based on the use of methiolate as a preservative because it contained mercury. That hasn't been used since the Clinton years.
Omitted from the story is that she actually died of a secondary infection that caused pneumonia and was not treated. It was more important to have a splashy news story about death from measles.
She passed away from an unrelated pneumonia. Not even secondary pneumonia.
I wonder what role venting her played in it.
It was a death sentence for Covid patients with pneumonia.
Anyone who takes the media at its word or as reported is a fool. The media never report the truth. Nor are they honest.
My 25 year old son got Covid bad (he has asthma). He walked into the hospital on his own power and talking. I forget what his O2 level was but it was VERY low - in the 40’s IIRC. (At 90 one is supposed to rush to the ER.) His lips were blue.
The admitting doctor was amazed. Kept him off a ventilator and the line in the nose helped along with the medicines and he improved. When the doctor left that night he told everyone to NOT put him on a ventilator unless he was called. Told my son too - DO NOT let anybody except me put you on a ventilator. He said while his numbers were still very low and he SHOULD be on a vent, his appearance and physical demeanor told otherwise.
Even the doctors knew that the ventilators often turned into a death sentence.
And in an unrelated note, a peanut allergy was unheard of back then. Something is changing.
Yup, but in those days I also remember that parents were warned to not give kids too young peanuts because there were kids who choked to death on peanuts but you don't now.
I wonder if anaphylaxis was misdiagnosed as choking to death on a peanut.
You have to recognize a condition to attribute death to it and it's certainly possible kids died from it and people didn't know why.
Yep. That was the way it was. No big deal. EVERY kid got the measles. No one died.
As false as false can be. Why say something like that? Yeah, they got it. Yeah, it was a very big deal for many who suffered greatly. And yeah, quite a number of people including children died. All of that stopped after developing the vaccine and it was largely eradicated. To say otherwise is completely false.
Now, we have people spreading propaganda to convince fewer people to get their kids vaccinated against it, and low and behold, measles infections will take place along with the suffering and death the disease caused before. What a surprise...and people like you come along and claim people didn't die from it with no embarrassment or shame.
Ask the grownups here who have lived through the measles. It was something every kid got, and it was no big deal. That's a fact.
If you want to get the measles jab, be my guest. I already had the measles and thus I am immune.
“No one died.”
I’m sorry, that is just not true. Death from measles is rare, but it can happen.
The daughter of Roald Dahl, the author (James & the Giant Peach, etc.) died of measles complications, suppose that would have been in the 1950s. He wrote a very sad article about it, think that was in support of the vaccine when it was introduced. Nobody expected the girl would die, but in the end she sadly did.
Have you ever tried NAC or nicotinamide riboside? Both may help with your breathing.
