We Dug Into the Polls. Democrats in Congress Should Be Very Afraid.
Politico ^ | 3/21/25 | Lakshya Jain

As Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer knows better than anyone, the Democratic base is pissed off. And not just a little.

The intensity of the anger roiling the party is at a historic level, suggesting a breach between congressional Democrats and the party grassroots so severe that it could reshape the 2026 primary election season.

Congressional Democrats have typically enjoyed higher popularity with their voting base than their Republican counterparts. But the trauma of the 2024 presidential election defeat appears to have ruptured that relationship. A review of Quinnipiac University’s annual first-quarter congressional polling reveals that, for the first time in the poll’s history, congressional Democrats are now underwater with their own voters in approval ratings.

Just 40 percent of Democrats approve of the job performance of congressional Democrats, compared to 49 percent who disapprove. That’s a dramatic change from this time last year, when 75 percent of Democrats approved compared to just 21 percent who disapproved. The Democratic base’s disillusionment runs so deep that it’s eerily reminiscent of Republican grassroots sentiment in the period leading up to Donald Trump’s takeover of the Republican Party.

The numbers are clear: No longer satisfied with the status quo in their party, Democrats are on the verge of a Tea Party-style, intra-party revolt.

The Democratic approval data is unlike any in recent history — and it isn’t a case of bitter, disaffected partisans reacting to a loss in the last election. The first time Democrats lost an election to Donald Trump, their congressional approval ratings within the party actually ticked up, as Democratic base voters largely approved of the ways that party leadership resisted the Trump administration in early 2017. The same phenomenon surfaced among Republicans in 2021 when, despite Trump’s defeat and the subsequent chaos of Jan. 6, Republican voters remained...

That’s interesting.
Are they upset because the leadership is too radical or not radical enough?

“Dropping like a rock. The commie RATS may have gone too far.”

Disagree. The Dem base is angry that the Dems haven’t gone far enough, and aren’t “fighting” hard enough.

They are not like us.

Clearly the latter.

Mutilating kids and gang bangers. On those 80% issues they can turn on a dime and they’ll be forgiven by their voters who are more than willing to follow the BJ’s out there. Trump keeps the pressure on them-unable to come up for air.

So who succeeds him? Kinder and gentler doesn’t work(’41). One who sits back and waits for the left to throw charges that needs responding to doesn’t work either(’43). I think DeSantis does a better job pushing the left up against the wall than JD does. It’s the unapologetic element coming from an executive who handles the heat like Trump.
Just my humble 2 cents worth.

Fundamentally Democrats want one thing: CONTROL.

When they lose it they get very angry.

We on the other hand only get angry when there is too much government control. We want freedom from it.

You’re right. They are not like us.

Loong-time Democrat voters and constituencies have not left the party - the party left them. The party leadership has morphed into the Democrat Socialists, always a small minority within the larger context of historically Democrat constituents.

This was for many years one of the most successful political hijackings ever undertaken. But the parade has stepped off from the leaders who have been up in front, and march to the beat of a different drummer.

“Democrats are on the verge of a Tea Party-style, intra-party revolt.”

They already had their communist takeover of the party, just exactly what will a “revolt” accomplish? Getting someone dumber than AOC or Crockett to run for Prez? Or some gun hating Nazi saluting puke like Hogg?

From the article:

“— recent Gallup polling found that 45 percent wanted the party to become more moderate, while 29 percent felt it should become more liberal, and 22 percent wanted it to stay the same.”

Looks like a large plurality wants their party to become more moderate.

These Tesla fires have crossed the line of no return. Even Millennials that love EVs and green technology see the democrats as mentally ill and are turning away.when the arrests of these criminals start piling up the Columbine generation won’t be able to look away.It will prove to be the final straw for the Democrat party. They better reign in Soros and have a peaceful summer or the democrats are done. All this unrest has left deep trauma to a generation of people that are too smart not to see the insanity of the left. The real incoventient Truth is that the Columbine generation has woken up and the Democrats are their enemy for a safe happy future. The blue mask of the democrat party has permanently become the No Joy Ever party. These fires are very disturbing to a whole generation of believers. That finally see the irony of the left. They have finally destroyed themselves.

Embracing these positions probably hasn’t helped:

In favor of illegal alien murderers on the streets.
In favor of illegal alien child rapists on the streets.
In favor of China controlling the Panama Canal.
In favor of a bad trade deals with Mexico.
In favor of a bad trade deals with Canada.
In favor of caving into Columbia not taking back its citizens.
Opposed to peace in Ukraine.
Opposed to peace and prosperity in Gaza.
Opposed to Israel defending itself.
Opposed to cutting waste, fraud, and abuse.
In favor of dangerous DEI hires.
In favor of a weak military.
In favor of keeping excess government employees on the payroll.
In favor of pretending that there are more than two sexes.
What did I miss?

One could interpret the poll as saying that a majority of Democrats (51%) want their party to either stay the same or become more leftist.

Democrats: “But they caught us with our hand in the cookie jar!”

Democrat Base: “We don’t care - keep stealing! Otherwise, we’ll throw you out and get new politicians who actually care about people like us!”
