I keep telling people the EV technology will catch up.
People sneer at EVs the same way they used to sneer at hybrids.
As has been pointed out in numerous prior threads, the infrastructure required by the physics of this type of massive current transfer is not currently feasible at scale. Additionally, current batteries will suffer immensely in terms of loss of capacity.
This time it’s happening for sure. The Chinese wouldn’t lie.
It will work in China because they are still bringing one huge coal fired generating unit on line every week.
Take yer pick:
A. This exciting new technology will revolutionize the electric vehicle market.
B. Sounds good. But no real proof yet.
C. This is just another instance of a stock market “pump and dump”.
Given that the news is coming out of Communist China, I am inclined to not pick choice A.
Chicoms never lie...
BYD on Monday unveiled a new platform for electric vehicles (EVs) that it said could charge EVs as quickly as it takes to pump gas,,,,. The so-called "super e-platform" will be capable of peak charging speeds of 1,000 kilowatts (kW)Keep in mind that EV batteries degrade with time, and thus require more frequent recharging. That is comparable to the gas tank in your ICE car getting smaller every time you fill it up.
Also the claimed 400-mile range is for fresh batteries, optimal driving conditions and speed, and no A/C or heating being used.
And where are these supposed 1 MEGAWATT recharging stations going to be located? In some local Walmart parking lot? Along the highway through the cornfield of Iowa? Or more likely, next to a nuclear reactor power plant?!?
Transferring all that energy into a confined space very quickly just might go boom. Now if this device really worked, was compatible with the existing electrical generating and transmission systems, then the manufacturer would be selling the systems around the world. Like every other new product extensive use by consumers would reveal the truth.
Is there ANY mention of the DAMAGE done to the battery with this fast charging? The damage is significant.
Also, to this day, the recommendation for ultimate battery care is only charge to 80%, and do not let it get below 20%.
It's estimated that the Chinese government has given BYD anywhere from $25 Billion to $50 Billion in financing and support. Chinese citizens are very proud of BYD and fully expect BYD to eventually dominate the global auto market. In contrast, the Democrat Party is torching the American company Tesla's dealerships and vandalizing and smashing their fellow Americans' Tesla vehicles across the country, thus influencing and inspiring intense anti-Tesla & anti-Musk sentiment throughout the world.
That's a big difference between the two nations. Seems Communist China is more proud of its corporations and its workers than is the constitutional democratic republic United States. (But I could be totally wrong about that.)
