BREAKING: A Washington DC court has just ruled on Mark Steyn and Rand Simberg's motion for sanctions against Michael Mann and his attorneys for misleading the jury at trial. Decision: Mann and his attorneys are SANCTIONED for bad faith misconduct and will be assessed costs

Thank you. I read it and it is scathing. Manns going to have to pay 10 YEARS of legal fees.
I’ve read the order. I don’t see punitive damages or did I just miss it. It seems to me that when you put someone through living hell for 13 or so years that there is something more than reimbursement for the 26 minutes here, 60 minutes there or filing times.
This makes me so happy for Mark.
Mann’s behavior throughout was loathsome.
The punitive damages were reduced to $5,000 in an earlier order. Basically, punitive damages must have some relationship to the actual damages. You can’t get $1,000,000 in punitive damages when the jury found no actual damages.
If ever there was a better example of the true meaning of PhD!

The hockey stick was result of his fraudulent PhD thesis.
Background: There is a problem with past temperature data.
The oldest reliable data go back only about 250 years ago. That was in the middle of Little Ice Age, so thanks God, we are having warming since! (Ever wonder why Founding Fathers were dressed up warmly?).
So Dr Mann cut few trees in Yamal peninsula (Siberia) and looked at the tree rings. His (faulty) theory was, that in warmer years, the trees grow faster. That was proven not to be true, but, it seemed reasonable then.
What came out of his faulty theory was, that the past temperature (climate) was pretty flat.
Not true! He did not even bother to compare it to these 250 years of reliable data!
His data actually showed cooling (decline) of the temperatures in last 25 years (hockey stick end in 1998).
Instead questioning his theory overall, he decided that there had to be some change. So he discarded his last 25 years of results and replaced them with real, measured data.
That was the infamous “hide the decline” from East Anglia college memos.
Voila, we got hockey stick!!!
Two different data sets, sticked together, without ever mentioning it.
Now, we are not talking about faulty theory, but a classical example of scientific fraud!

I feel for Mr. Steyn’s health, however he travelled ALOT under Civid and I believe he got a bad shot or two and that is the main reason for his health decline.
I do wish him the best.

People say things like, why would someone plead guilty or why don't they fight back. It is because the other side will dedicate 13 years and judge shop to make sure you are punished even if you win.
And this was just a civil action. God help you if you get crosswise of a government bureaucrat. They will not only take your money but your kids, your house, your freedom and kill your pets.
And there will be no punishment for them.
