My stepson, from Texas, just finished his second and last semester at Columbia. He started there in time for the on-campus protests that forced him to to complete most of his classes online. He has told his advisor that since he’s been there he’s received nowhere near the education he is paying for. He departs with an acute dislike of anything Columbia and NYC.

By the time I graduated with my bachelor’s degree I was paying $34 per credit hour. And I thought that was rather high at the time.

I went to a different but still famous private university.

The tuition for the 1975-1976 academic year was $3,300.

When I went to the local branch of our state university it cost $300 a semester. I was able to pay that with my $1.00 per hour McDonald’s job.

Columbia's endowment at the end of FY 2024 was nearly $15 BILLION dollars.

Here are the tuition increases over time for Ivy League Colleges:

Here is Columbia's Endowment over time:

Here is Harvard University's Endowment over time:

When one looks at this, and one hears the absurd squealing from both Harvard and Columbia over the $400 million it will withhold from Columbia (and hopefully, Harvard as well) and you look at their incredibly large endowments, and how they have jacked up the tuitions and fees for gullible parents and students...

Excuse me while I puke. “Prestigious” has become synonymous with “clown show”, “rip-off” and “JOKE.”

Taxpayers fund 25%.

I can't find a reference now, but I heard on a Fox program that the $400 million in grants that President Trump nuked was just the tip of a federal iceberg of $$ Columbia received.

More than 5 Billion

Oh, thank you! That ..... FIVE - with a B - was the number I recalled, but didn't dare say it without some back-up.

Shocking, even in a nearly shock-proof world.
