The White House remained steadfast in its DOGE agenda after 20 Democratic state attorneys general collaborated to file a lawsuit Friday challenging the legality of the administration’s planned cuts to the federal workforce.
"The Democrats have no plan on how to recover from their embarrassing loss, and it shows," White House principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields said Monday.
"Instead of working to become a party that focuses on the will of the people, they are hell-bent on keeping their heads in the sand and gaslighting on the widely supported mission of DOGE."
Maryland’s top lawman led 19 other states in asking a federal court to halt what Attorney General Anthony Brown called illegal mass layoffs of federal probationary employees. His office also called for those already let go to have their jobs reinstated.
The lawsuit listed each of Trump’s top 21 acting or confirmed cabinet officials as defendants in their official capacity, and alleged the administration made "no secret of their contempt for the roughly 2 million committed professionals who form the federal civil service."
"Nor have they disguised their plans to terminate vast numbers of civil servants, starting with tens of thousands of probationary employees," the suit read.
Fields, a spokesman for President Donald Trump, said that slashing waste, fraud and abuse and "becoming better stewards of the American taxpayer’s hard-earned dollars" might "be a crime to Democrats."
"But, it’s not a crime in a court of law," Fields said.
Brown said in a statement that Trump’s "mass firings" have thrown thousands of Marylanders and others who work for the government into "financial insecurity."

“thrown into “financial insecurity.”
Translation: Having to look for a real job, while being worthless, with no skills in anything.
These people are obviously on the take. They don’t make anything compared with a real lawyer. I would guess if DOGE followed their finances for a while it would be interesting.
“AGs having no ‘standing’ vs. Fed. cuts/lay-offs”
*Snort* As if Judicial tyranny gave 2 sh!ts about 1) consistency 2) the Constitution/Law...esp. as it comes to their self-perceived ‘power(s)’ over the other Branches
I, for one, relish the idea of the (D) pushing Federalism these days. Just RE: Maine’s Governor’s threat of ‘keeping back’ Federal taxes.
Can’t wait for the whole house-of-cards to come crashing down. Might be a glimmer of Hope for our (once) Republic.
In the private sector there is NO guarantee of an employer providing you continued employment. You can have an excellent work record, the company’s financial position solid, etc. and you can still be let go.
Being a Federal employee shouldn’t make you a protected class impervious to sound business decisions to cut staffing levels. Appreciate the work many Federal organizations do, but let’s not forget where those salaries are coming from.
How do these states have any standing to participate in such a suit?
The highest income counties in the USA based on median household income are:
Loudoun County, Virginia - $178,707
Santa Clara County, California - $159,674
San Mateo County, California - $156,000
Falls Church, Virginia - $154,734
Fairfax County, Virginia - $150,113
Howard County, Maryland - $146,982
Only two of the six add to the wealth of our nation.
Our Capital Washington DC has more in common with Imperial Rome. Incalculable wealth flowed/flows into both to the detriment of everyone else.
There is something fundamentally wrong when four of the top six wealthiest counties by income surround DC.
I look forward to the demise of your previously entitled neighbors.
