I’m hoping to hear from some fellow freeper thoughts on retiring in Thailand. We’re looking at Chiang Mai as our target destination. We’ve been to Thailand before; 1989, 1992 and most recently in 2014 (so we know what it is like right now - big changes lol). I know there is a lot of info available on YouTube and other sites, but I want to check here with anyone who may have actually made the move and what their suggestions may be.
Don’t drink the water.....
Read and fully understand their laws and consequences should you violate any of them. Some are so minuscule you wouldn’t give it a second tho9ught, but better. https://www.thetravellerworldguide.com/2024/04/top-10-weird-laws-in-thailand-that-will-blow-your-mind/
Very good! And hugh. And series.
All great advice and completely aligned with our thoughts. Thank you!

Just personal for me, but you couldn’t pay me to even visit any place in Asia, much less live there.
This should have a happy ending.
I love Thai food. The best meal in Paris that I had was at a Thai restaurant.
Lots of good Thai food in America.
After Canada is admitted to the Union, should be good there too.
54’40” or fight!
I love the food there, but if I was going to stay longer term I would carefully check air quality in different areas.
I just read that thailand has a burning season in feb/march where the air gets much worse
Thai food is delicious. Great balance of all the flavor profiles. But damn, it can be spicy depending on the chef.
Thailand?
I’ve been watching YouTube beach webcams situated on the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan: shouldn’t be much of an AQ problem there. Koh Samui even has a McDonalds! (I realize I am in a minority considering that a plus).
“Living in a country not your own is a risk.”
Agree. If things go south, you don’t want to be the “other.”
Don’t.
That costs extra.
I came here to say this.
I believe Mark Lewis, who is a regular columnist at Townhall.com, has been living in Thailand for a long time. He could probably provide excellent advice for you.
Interesting.....my GF is also suggesting this.
