Does anyone here use Sling?
We 'cut the cord' many years ago, and have used Roku since then; but I would like to have one or two channels that are only available to cable subscribers. (We don't want or need cable.)
I'm just wondering if anyone here has been happy with Sling, and what one needs to make it work. I'm not interested in movies, just cable news, documentaries, history,
Thanks very much.
That setup looks interesting. It’s confusing ‘cause I don’t understand all of it but will research.
I clicked the link for the AirTV gizmo. It says Sling is “required”, but it also lists Roku, Firestick, and others. So will have to figure that out.
We have Amazon Prime, mostly for quick delivery of products, but also watch TV sometimes. And Roku which we love. And DirecTV, which we had to get since there was no internet available at our house when we moved in, so no streaming. Satellite was our only option at the time. Will disconnect later this year when our two-year commitment is up.
Check out Frndlytv too.
Cutting the cord has just changed the problem. All these streaming services are turning to shxt just like cable was. You watch one or two shows of a series then they want you to pay up to watch the rest. Amazon Prime is a joke now. Many want you to pay more for ad free and that’s what they were when you started. They raise prices just as quick as well and the ads seem to have doubled.
Sucks yet I still watch and pay. Go figure.
We have one other option for TV. When we bought our new Samsung TV, it came with Samsung Plus TV and there’s NO COST for it. No sign-up. Just use. All new Samsungs come with it. It has some good “stations” — RAV and others. (Supposedly “thousands” of stations.)
It’s like old-fashioned TV in that it’s live streaming, and you can’t record anything (unless they’ve changed that recently). I find it not user friendly to navigate the guide, menu, etc., and some day will spend some time to see if I can make better sense of it.
“Samsung TV Plus is a free, ad-supported streaming service that offers live TV, movies, and shows on demand. It’s available on Samsung devices, including TVs, phones, and tablets.”
“Includes news, sports, movies, music, and kids and family entertainment. Offers access to thousands of live TV channels. Includes thousands of movies and shows on demand.”

OANN and some others are on free Pluto - we watched the President’s address on Blaze TV on Pluto.
Bkmk
Fubo is fine with me. Newsmax, plenty of sports, good variety.
My son shares you Tube TV with us to get the “one or two channels” available on cable
I have Sling orange for the sports channels, and use an antenna for local channels. No issues.
Sling is required but there is a free version of Sling that you never pay for, and that’s all that’s required. Plus Slings gives you hundreds of free channels live Fox Live and Real America’s Voice. No need to pay for anything.
I used to have Sling. It was okay. When I started it was 30 bucks a month. As the price started going up, I started to look at what I really watched with it.
I can get what I really watched on Sling by paying 4.99-7.99 a month for certain packets with content I watched on Sling. I found this way cheaper than Sling.
I have done great without it.
The Super Bowl was free on Tubi.
I got the big dish in 1982.
Near the middle to end of the nineties there was true ala carte and you could build a package channel by channel.
But because of piracy and the advent of the little DBS dish the big C-band dish faded away.
I was an early adopter and my first equipment was primitive.
The actuator that moved the dish was actually a saginaw lift used on RVs. It used a DC motor connected to a toggle switch. To move the direction of the dish, you pressed the toggle switch up or down which reversed polarity and therefore direction. You located the satellite by picture and you had to know which transponders on which satellites were active and tune to that transponder when locating a satellite or you would just sail on by.
There were a lot a channels with a lot of different stuff on them.
In some ways it foreshadowed the internet as I became a slave to technology.
Today most folks are slaves to technology, at least those with smart phones.
Yep, I remember searching g for the right dish position, and finding channels along the way that I didn’t know existed- then when it was I. The general position, there was a fine tune adjustment to really zero in- was a bit of work, but it saved us many hundreds of dollars a year. The dish was so large that it would fill with snow and not move, and we’d have to go out and shovel the snow out lol.
I looked up their current lineup, and they don’t seem to carry Fox News; and the weather channels they have are ones we already have access to. But thanks for the suggestion.
I figure if I stop subscribing to several things on Roku that I rarely use anyway, I will make up most of the cost of Sling, if we decide to get it.
Gosh; if you’re going to complain about ‘sleazy commercials’, you’ll be unable to buy much at all, these days...
Thanks. We’ll check out the free version before we take the plunge.
Thanks; the ‘Blue’ looks good.
