Academy Awards 2025 (Live Thread)
ABC 7 ^ | March 2, 2025 | Oscar

LOS ANGELES -- The 2025 Oscars are officially here.

Conan O'Brien is hosting the 97th Academy Awards, which honor the best in cinema from the past year.

"Emilia Pérez" leads the field of nominees this year with 13 total Oscar nominations, just one shy of tying the record for most nominations by a single film held by "All About Eve," "Titanic" and "La La Land."

"The Brutalist" and "Wicked" follow closely behind with 10 nominations each, while "A Complete Unknown" and "Conclave" round out the top-nominated films with eight nods apiece.

This year's show will honor the city of Los Angeles, showcasing its resilience in the wake of the wildfires that left at least 29 dead and destroyed thousands of homes.

The Oscars ceremony is live on ABC now and is streaming live on Hulu for the first time.

Follow along below with updates throughout the night, and check out all coverage of the 2025 Oscars here.

I do occasionally watch movies still . If I find out it has gay stuff I don’t go. That really cut down on the ones I would be interested in.

We’re busy with Mardi Gras. Nothing outside New Orleans is real right now.

I didn’t know who Kieran Culkin was but when I looked him up on Google I got a neat special effect on my phone: a floating star announcing him as a winner 🏆

I literally blew a gasket when they proclaimed their “victimhood” and drew applause from the audience. We had to change the channel for a while until my blood pressure dropped….🤬

Cute! But...and I don’t mean to sound cynical...I doubt google did that when Trump won the election...(I may be wrong.)

I read that Gal Gadot did her stint in the IDF. She has some strong feelings, I’m sure.

(Re: Miley) Her music doesn’t resonate with me but she has always been talented and I bet she’d be a great in dramatic acting role!

Miley Cyrus has been in several movies..."Hannah Montana:The Movie"..."The Last Song"...

LOL.

1. Don’t hate Hollywood, at least not Hollywood of old. New Hollywood often bores me.

2. Last movie I went to at the theater was “Sound of Freedom”. Not really something Hollywood wanted to brag about, but they should have.

Before that? Hell if I remember. Maybe 10 years before that.

3. Not watching tonight, but my kids are going to an Oscars watching party with their friends and children are welcomed. DIL is dressed as Aubrey Hepburn. Son is some character from Dune 2, which I’ve never heard of. Grandkids are Darth Vader and Bob Dylan as a toddler.

I was also upset with that pro-Palestinian speech...Maybe the houses would not be destroyed if Palestinian terrorists stopped attacking Israel...

Best foreign language film..."I'm Still Here"... A Brazilian movie about military dictatorship in Brazil..."Emilia Perez" did not win the Best Foreign Film award...

Kieran Culkin was very good in what I would describe as a ‘difficult watch’. He plays the perpetual f***-up.

Yeah totally agree. Ir was a hard watch.

Some documentary about Israeli military destroying Palestinian homes won the award...

Well, without knowing the context, I would cheer it!
