Two Regina Rams football players have been arrested in relation to a four-month drug trafficking investigation.
On Thursday and Friday, the Regina Police Service executed eight search warrants and charged five people. A news conference with more details is expected at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
980 CJME reached out to the University of Regina for a statement.
“We can confirm Michael Jourdan and Tarick Polius are student-athletes enrolled at the University of Regina and played football for the Rams during the 2024 season. Due to the ongoing police investigation, we will not comment on the arrest or the charges. At this time, the individuals are suspended from the football team,” the statement read.
At a news conference, an inspector said from the seizures they’ve been seeing, it could be assumed that customers are going over to fentanyl more and that the drug problem is getting bigger.
Giroux said the fentanyl came from out of province, came from the east. And that much fentanyl is enough for “75K doses.”
Polius was considered a future CFL prospect who was in his fourth season of U Sports eligibility.
The 6’7″, 310-pound defensive lineman was named a Canada West all-star in 2024. During 11 games last year, he had 49 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and five pass knockdowns.
He played junior football with the Westshore Rebels (2021-22) and the Okanagan Sun (2023) before coming to the U of R.
Jourdan also played his junior football with the Okanagan Sun. During 2024 with the Rams, he compiled 22 tackles, one interception in the regular season and then an interception against Laval in the Mitchell Bowl.
The investigation was by the Regina Police Service Drug Unit and Regina Police Service Street Gang Unit.
According to the news release, the police searched places in Regina, Alameda and Frobisher.
The seizures included the following:
•7.5 kilograms of fentanyl; •476 grams of cocaine; •22 grams of methamphetamine; •$151,425.00 in cash; •A prohibited .22 caliber handgun and ammunition; •A restricted 9mm handgun and ammunition; and •3 vehicles.
A 36-year-old and 44-year-old man from Regina were arrested along with a 32-year-old man from Alameda. The two Rams players, aged 24 and 21, are from Toronto.
On Feb. 21, the five accused made their first court appearances in Regina Provincial Court.
More to come.
7.5 kilograms (16.5 lbs) of fentanyl; 476 grams (1 lb) of cocaine; 22 grams (3/4 ounce) of methamphetamine; A prohibited .22 caliber handgun and ammunition; A restricted 9mm handgun and ammunition.
At 6’7″ and 310-pounds, Polius shouldn't have a problem being picked on in the graybar hotel, assuming he doesn'tget a suspended sentence!
there once was a man from Regina....
Tarick Polius
What country/province is Regina in?
Regina, ‘The Queen City’, is the Capital of Saskatchewan. It has approximately 250k residents. Saskatchewan is the Province just East of Alberta, bordering Montana and North Dakota.
Hopefully, joined with AB, it will become the 51st State. We certainly do need to leave the failed State of Canaduh!
The Sasketchewan Roughriders are my favorite CFL Team.
They should stuff that poison up their backsides.
